Huge. Great selection, New and used books at good prices, great helpers everywhere you turn. Quaint exterior. A photo opportunity from the outside.

Thank Iriani

This bookstore has everything the book lover would ever want or need. Used, new, paperback, hardback, specials, gifts...I could get lost in here for days!

Staff at VB are generally knowledgeable and unfailingly helpful. The range of books and categories is extensive. The book-store itself is bright and cheerful. It shares the floor-space with Paper Dreams, a card and gift-shop. We particularly like the cafe up-stairs, delicious lunches, snacks and coffees, and killer views of Bellingham Bay. One of the owners, Dee Robinson, seemingly has poor people skills or just can't remember customers who have been patronizing the store for years. It would be good to see foreign authors featured with a special week or two during the year. There used to be such a focus, but the employee who pulled it all together left for pastures. The stores publishes the Chuckanut Reader every quarter, listing new books, upcoming author appearances and book club meetings. Chuckanut Radio Hour - the brain-child of Dee and her husband Chuck, and in which both have starring roles, with a local "poet" intoning his bad lines, is embarrassingly awful. We attended one at which Alexander McCall Smith had to bravely and graciously subject himself to the zany goings-on. We vowed never to return to CRH and never have. Chuck and Dee should stick to selling books, it is their forte, and enough with portraying themselves as Santa and Mrs. Claus at Christmas. Why not feature some of their wonderful staff in Santa, Mrs. C., or the elves' costumes instead, they deserve recognition as they give the store the human touch and personality it otherwise lacks.

This bookstore is a real gem. Offering new and used books, knowledgable and friendly staff, pet-friendly, community focussed. Worth supporting with your $$ and visits. Good coffee shop / restaurant next door.

This is in the middle of Fairhaven so parking can be a challenge. It has a great atmosphere and there is a fair amount of books with some categories represented than others. Bathroom on each floor and has an elevator for those with mobility issues or strollers. There is a cafe and 2 areas for in house events like authors reading from their book, then signing copies afterward.
