“A bar or a day care center?”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

The management should decide if this bar is actually a bar or a day care center. Unfortunately families with unruly children and infants are regularly seated at tables in the Packers Bar. As in many bars in Washington State, the prohibition against minors in the bars is met with the ridiculous placement of a kind of bannister around the actual bar/counter area which is then declared the area in which no minors are allowed. The rest of the place is therefore declared "not a bar" and up for grabs by any family who may or may not give a fig about their children's behavior and how that disturbs adults who come to the place to enjoy the food and the view. Parents of these children spend most of their time dealing with these children and, like the others (adults) in the restaurant, are deprived of any semblance of a good dining experience. In spite of shelling out good money for food and drink, diners sit meekly in their seats while the children run about, scream and cry and otherwise disturb everyone.

The dungeness crab sliders are delicious, by the way.

“Packer's Oyster Bar”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

The food was outstanding!! The view was amazing!! The only reason I only gave it 4 marks was because The food took a little long to come out of the kitchen. The view and visiting with friends made the wait ok and when the food did come out it was so good!

“Wonderful retreat totally ruined by renovations”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

Sad to say, I gave Packers at the Semiahmoo Resort one more chance last night and it was terrible. As others have said on this site the meals are very over priced, minimal in size, and basically an insult to the customers. After waiting for months to see the "new" restaurants in the newly renovated resort, it was a terrible disappointment to see that they have ruined a wonderful spot in Blaine. The newly remodeled restaurants are completely cold and uninviting. Except for the fantastic view which of course they could not alter, the new designs ruined the once quaint and cozy atmosphere of this resort by the water. Many of the local clientele will abandon this new atmosphere with sadness at the loss of a favorite retreat from the "urban" and modern look which is certainly NOT an improvement. Many of the local clientele depended on the warmth and comfort of the resort which accented the history of the Semiahmoo area where the old cannery stood. The old resort honored that history and the quiet atmosphere of this seaside spot was a welcome haven in our modern, cold, and noisy world today. Now that atmosphere has ruined our retreat. The old Packers was a "pub" where one could escape the noise of what is laughingly called "music" and the clank of a busy restaurant. We could sit there in that cozy spot and actually hear the person next to us talking instead of straining to hear over the loud and obnoxious music in the "bar".

Now, the food. My Crab and Shrimp "Louie" salad was awful. Small portion, hardly enough to satisfy the appetite of justify the price! Compared to the generous salads of the old Packers, it was disgraceful. I have to say the salad was actually better than the poor excuse for a Prawn Cocktail I had for the price of $14!!! Six "pouched" shrimp on two pieces of lettuce served on a large dinner plate, NOT in a cocktail glass, and a so-called cocktail sauce which tasted more like ketchup in a cup with a sprinkly of what the server called "home-ground" horseradish on the side!! The worst shrimp cocktail I have ever seen! The creme brulee dessert was so tiny, three bites finished it!! For $9!!!

WHY have they ruined this place??? The floor manager did ask how we enjoyed our meal and we told her. BUT, even though she said she would report to her managers and the menu would be reviewed, I know it will not change. When they opened Packers in the spring, I complained to the chef himself and NOTHING changed. In fact it is worse than it was then. How very sad. We will not be back. This was the last chance to impress. My advice to the owners? Take out the new design, stop trying to become an urban oasis at the expense of common sense and good food!! When the unsuspecting tourists disappear in the Fall and Winter, the local population's lack of support will be very obvious and the new owners will understand what is wrong with their new resort.

“What's going on out there???”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

Couldn't reserve a table in Packers...meeting with 7 other friends, couldn't get a reservation, they don't take them. Wouldn't set up a large table for us. We pulled chairs over, waiter helped pull a table over. Strange, why not cater to a group of people that are going to eat and spend money.

Five of us ordered the "Shrimp and Crab Louie Salad". Maybe five whole pieces of Bibb lettuce, two shrimp, a tablespoon of crab, one soggy small crab claw, five bitter pieces of cucumber, six halved grape tomatoes with a bland Russian dressing and a few croutons. Was missing the egg that was on the menu, on all the salads at our table. Huge disappointment, asked for bread to fill out the meal, waiter told us there was no bread available in the kitchen. After we expressed our dismay, he returned with a nice basket of grilled Rosemary bread.

One person ordered a pizza, it looked delicious, the crab sliders looked great, and one other lady had a bowl of steamed mussels that smelled delicious. Too bad the salads were awful, at $12, definitely overpriced.

Last month I went with a friend and she ordered the same salad, it came in a bowl and was more than she could eat, she shared her shrimp, she had six, and it was loaded with crab. That's why I ordered it and recommended it to my friends. I felt like I wasted my money, might go back for pizza, just for the view, what a shame.

Kudos to Roger, our server, attentive, nice, apologetic about the bread and he fixed it. Great mustache!!!
