“Had to leave early!!!”
Reviewed 12 February 2013

We decided to go spent two nights up at BirchBay. When we arrived the staff was very nice and got us right into our room. Our room was on the 4th floor facing the parking lot but had a small view of the water. Our first night we walked down to one of the few resturants by the resort and the food was ok but the service was bad! When we decided to go back to our room and rent a 3 dollar movie to watch we had the people in the unit below us banging on the celing at us. The second day we went to find some stuff to do and roamed around everywhere, not much open in the off season. So back to finish our last night we decided to rent a few movies and after the first movie the phone to our room was ringing "around 8pm" it was the front desk saying the people below us were complaining. So we walked quiet on egg shells for the next few hours and the phone started ringing again. The front desk saying the people below us are complaining again. I got fed up and went down stairs and told the front desk we were checking out. I was not going to pay for a room to relax and have some annoying people keep complaining about us walking in the room we paid for. So basically the front desk said "do you want me to check for a room on a lower floor for you?" When I said no they told be to be safe driving. So basically to sum it all up. The room was decent the fireplace didnt work but was a nice room. The front desk staff was nice but called non stop and said they even stood outside our door to listen for us being loud the first night and didnt hear anything. So I am guessing it is a very cheaply build building and the people under you can hear everything. Most unenjoyable vacation I have ever had!!!!!

Room Tip: Penthouse is the only room with full water view.

My wife and I were apprehensive about our stay based on some of the reviews, and were very pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable our week spent there turn out. Our unit (316) had expansive views of the bay, was comfortable and bright, clean and well-appointed, and everything worked well. There were a few maintenace issues that did not detract from our enjoyment and which we only reported to the staff upon our departure as being minor. The staff was simply wonderful. We found a good grocery store (The Market) a couple of miles away, and the Teriyaki Cafe at the end of the street was great. I can't believe we didn't have more seafood restaurant options unless you went to Bellingham !! We ate twice in Blaine, and the Thai food is pretty good (I lived in Bangkok). Enjoy !!

Just returned from a 2-night stay here as a guest of a friend who is a WorldMark member, for a board retreat. While we had a pleasant stay, that was due to the beautiful location and the company. Upon check-in, were informed that filling out a survey (including providing a phone number) was "mandatory." One of our group received a phone call from the sales center just 5 minutes later.
We had two rooms - one was quite dark, the other was an end unit with large windows and lots of light. Rooms have been or are being renovated, but all the materials and fixtures are cheap and there is already moisture damage in the bathrooms. We did enjoy the fireplaces. What is most disappointing is that the entire building was so cheaply built - footsteps from units above were constant, loud, and annoying. Overall we were not impressed with this property and by the sales push, and I would not be inclined to purchase a timeshare. Next time I come to Birch Bay I will stay elsewhere.

We do not recommend this facility. The rooms are spacious but are dark. Amenities are lacking or cost more than expected. Wi-Fi which is suppose to be included has a perday charge. Arcade games are a buck a pop. DVD rental is $3 a pop. Bring your own food as very few food options grocery store is smaal expensive mini mart style store. We did go in off season and expected fewer options activities but found absolutely nothing to do. Staff seem friendly but not really engaged. We had a 3 night stay planned and left after one night they didn't even ask why we were leaving so early just goodbye.
Furniture in room: dinning table is too large for space, couch looked nice but so stiff could not get comfortable. Chair has such a large seat I could not get comfortable.
View: major view of parking lot small view of bay.
Pool: OK
Work out room:OK a little odd to have shared sex restroom/shower with no door lock could have been extremely ackward if some one else walked in.

This was our second time staying at the Birch Bay property this year, both times for a single night enroute to another location. Both times we had quiet, clean rooms in the front building that were nicely furnished and had very nice views of the bay. As another reviewer mentioned, the electronic equipment was outdated (boom box with no MP3 or iPod inputs and old style TV with a digital converter box so no HD TV), but noticed some of the other units have already been updated.

A real bonus this trip was the restaurant that recently opened across the street: Birch Bay Bistro (not sure of the formal name as the signage and receipt had different ones and it's so new it doesn't show up in TripAdvisor). We walked across the street to check it out, then watched the staff greet a surprising number of "regulars" for such a new place. We understood once our order arrived: We enjoyed a delicious meal of seafood alfredo (made by a true chef) and sockeye salmon with garlic mash while watching snow geese, cranes and ducks settle for the night as the sun set over the bay.

We enjoyed our short stay and will definitely consider returning.

Room Tip: Studios only have a murphy bed, which is not as comfortable as World Mark's regular beds. Need...

I had been very apprehensive of our stay based on the reviews. Yet, our experience could not have been more different! The staff was very cheerful and friendly. I was greeted several times by various employees. My husband and I stayed in a studio in an undesirable location. The unit was larger than at another property (Camlin) and it was facing the units of another building. Big deal. Overall it was quiet and comfortable. And most importantly, it was spotless.
And we did get a call from the staff shortly after check in to see if everything was alright which I always think is a nice touch.

There was a ceiling fan to cool the room and no oven. There was a gas grill which worked out perfectly otherwise we would have had to eat out....I don't know why some have remarked it is outdated. The decor is contemporary, there was an ipod docking station, and a DVD player. The TV was not a flatscreen, but not a deal breaker. All of the items that are typically stocked in the units were there.

We even went for the owner's education update. It was a painless meeting with no pressure, just the sharing of information by cheerful staff. Also, our rep mentioned they will be doing some refurbishing in November. We left impressed and not disappointed.

We arrived after driving through four states to enjoy the first stop of a much needed vacation. As we walked to our condo I noticed that the hallway carpets were spotted and dirty and the common areas were not well maintained. Once we got in the condo it got worse. The pictures shown of this location in the World Mark catalog must have been taken somewhere else! The furniture in our room was old, dated and completely filthy. There were brown spots of who knows what on the couch and the arm rests of the chairs were dark with grime. The floor in the kitchen was dirty along the edges and the entire place was old and in need of updating. The stereo (boom box) and TV's were all from the 80's and the kitchen was not as well stocked as other World Mark locations I have stayed in.

I went to the balcony to check the view. There was none. Our view was of the parking lot and garbage dumpsters. I might also mention that this location has no air conditioning so in the summer you have to keep the windows open. Our room was located over the swimming pool so the sound of kids screaming and splashing was heard throughout the day. In the early morning hours it was not the pool we could hear, it was the garbage trucks emptying dumpsters in the early morning.

I can't imagine what they were thinking when they designed this building. I have been to several other World Mark properties and have always been pleased. This was a tremendous disappointment. We packed up as soon as we possibly could and left town! Fortunately the staff at check-in was understanding and helpful.

Room Tip: Go to Seattle.
