Owner description: North of Carson 15 miles, more or less, than an hour hike in to a great water fall!

We did this short hike over the weekend as part of quick trip to Carson. This hike is fantastic. We hike often, so we consider this a shorter hike. However, extremely worth it. It is very beautiful. When I was reading reviews on it one stated that "it is the most beautiful falls in the state of Washington". I was skeptical, however, after seeing it I believe it. We started very late in the day; around 2, so it was very hot. Otherwise we would have followed trail 152 to the top after seeing the falls from the bottom. We will be back to take that hike as we enjoyed it immensely. Regardless of fitness level, although it is a climb, I recommend this hike what you see at the end is well worth it. You do not need a discover or forest pass nor pay a day use fee to park and hike on this trail.

This was a beautiful hike, moderate difficulty only because of the uphill, rocks and roots on the trail, although certainly very manageable in tennis shoes. Lots of spots for great photo opps. We were on the trail by 9 am and as we were leaving there was an increasing number of people just hiking in, so we were glad we went relatively early. We just did the lower falls trail which, to the falls and back to the parking lot, I believe was about 3 miles.

Two mile hike each way, moderate difficulty and the most beautiful waterfall. Well worth it a memory that will stay with you forever.

If you do this, hike to the lower falls, then hike 152 trail to the top....tiring but well worth it.

The trail head is about a 20 minute drive from Carson, Washington in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The drive to the trail head in itself is beautiful. We arrived at 10am on Saturday morning and there was plenty of parking at the trail head. To get to the waterfall, you have to hike 2 miles into the forest. The hike back can be done in two ways: (1) hike back from the waterfall the same way you came, total round trip is 4 miles, or (2) a 5 mile loop that's a bit more tricky. We followed the "Curious Gorge" guidebook and were able to complete the 5 mile loop just fine. We started the hike around 10am and finished 4 hours later including a picnic lunch and lots of stops. We had some traffic on the trail on the way back, but for most of our hike we had the forest to ourselves. There's a bathroom at the trail head but there are no other bathrooms on the trail. October proved to be a fabulous time to visit, the autumn colors were amazing and the temperature was perfect for hiking. We really enjoyed this hike.
