We needed to get to Stehekin earlier than the Lady Express would arrive so I surprised hubbs with this seaplane ride instead. This was definately a bucket list attraction. The ride was just breath taking up Lake Chelan and only took 30 minutes. I wish we had booked the return flight because the 4 hour return boat ride was a bit of a let down after riding the sea plane. I believe you can also book other tours of the area through Chelan Seaplanes. Would loved to have done the flight over the glaciers. Maybe next time!

The weather for our mid-September visit to Lake Chelan gave us warm, clear days and cool nights. On our short flight to the well-named Rio Vista winery on the Columbia River we got a sense of the surrounding countryside and the interesting geology. Steve, our pilot, was good about showing us various points of interest. After wading ashore and a lovely barefoot walk up to the winery, we had about an hour for tasting a pretty wide variety of Rio Vista wines, some of them excellent. The winery itself is beautiful with a spacious viewing deck of the Columbia River below. Our tour lasted about an hour and a alf. The winery has a gift shop, restroom, and offers tasty cheese and cracker plates and full glasses of wine for a fee.

This was our second time flying to Stehekin for breakfast on Chelan Seaplanes and it was just as pleasurable as the first. The view of the lake from above is amazing and lends a whole new perspective for anyone who has taken the trip by boat. The plane is comfortable with nice big windows for viewing. Our pilot, Steve, was knowledgable and entertaining, and we really appreciated how he made sure we had a great view of our place below when we flew over.
We landed in Stehekin, ate breakfast and walked around the grounds a bit enjoying the scenery, then flew back on the next flight out. Our grandson (6) loved it, as did we!
We will definitely be back for another flight!

I took a trip to Stehekin with my boyfriend for a week and went on a camping adventure. The boat ride up to Stehekin was slow and pretty, but definitely something that I would prefer to do only one way. The seaplane was exactly what we wanted after a week of camping - a quick flight down lake toward a hot shower. The ride took about 30 or 40 minutes (much better than the 4+ hours travelling on the boat.) Our pilot was very knowledgeable about the area and landmarks and made remarks on the flight back. It was very pretty and interesting. I would recommend this to anyone that doesn't like being stuck on a hot boat with screaming children for 4 hours.

This is a great trip to make whether you're going for the short round trip (11/2 hourish minimum), day trip or, like we did, combine it with a return a couple of days later by ferry (fast or, preferably stopping ferry, you see more).

The pilot is expert and gives an informative commentary on the way. The experience itself is unusual (we all fly on 737's etc) in a 6 seater plane (including pilot) and with good visibility, flying towards the mountains gives gorgeous views. The landing is a polished, well choreographed demonstration of how to single handedly, land, maneuver and park the plane against the dock. Swift round of applause.

Go do it. It's wonderful.
