“charged us for a night we did not stay there”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2014

This review is based on our

We made reservations for 6 nights there and ended up getting our job done early so when we checked out a day early they said they were going to charge us for the nights we reserved not the nights we actually stayed.

I've never heard of a hotel doing this and when I called to talk to the manager she told me to call back later.

This place is the only place in the area and they are taking advantage of that fact for sure.

We have stayed here for several years when visiting family in the area. Original owners were great , lived on premisis and were focused on cleanliness and maintenance. New owner is an absentee owner who owns several properties and hires out management. Lots of deferred maintenance since the last time we stayed here. We went several days without our room being cleaned. Had to buy our own toilet paper and tissue at a nearby IGA. Had to ask for clean towels at 8:45 pm and wait until after 9 pm to get them in a motel with few cars parked outside. Unfortunately it is currently the only game in town. Anyone wanting to make an investment in a good, well run, small family motel could probably do well in Darrington.

Room Tip: As of May of 2014 I would get a room in Arlington, WA about 30 miles west No restaurants currently o...

Granted it's the only hotel in the town of Darrington, it had great people friendly service and was real close to everything. The bedroom was cozy, (a little dated) but clean and nice. Perfect for some sweaty hikers to spend the night. Walking distance to a Burger Barn and IGA grocery store. Very convenient. Two thumbs up! Love you Darrington Motor Inn!

Ps. There is no breakfast offered here!

The motel is as other reviewers have depicted it. Nothing fancy but very functional and clean. I would stop here again. Note, there are no restaurants in town except the burger barn, which leaves no where for breakfast. There is an IGA market next door to this motel so you can get some things there.

My husband and I stayed here a couple of days ago after traveling the lovely Mt. Loop Hwy. from Granite Falls. Everything the previous reviewer described is accurate. This is not a new place but it is clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortably firm--no dips or sagging mattress. The bathroom was clean with fairly new towels. No odd smells or stains in the carpet. The fridge was quiet and worked fine--perfect for storing the last of our food from the cooler we carried. It was a quiet, restful place. Best of all was the sweet, charming lady (proprietor) who made wonderful pumpkin waffles for us the next morning. They were topped with a wonderful blackberry sauce with peaches and served with turkey bacon. There was also coffee, orange juice, tea and hot chocolate and a very yummy pumpkin bread. It was simple, delicious and perfectly adequate for starting our day. Very hospitable and down home. We loved the personal touch and sincerity. You certainly can't beat the price! The grocery store is steps away and a couple of blocks further is the Burger Barn--a little expensive but good burgers and great shakes. Don't be hesitate to stay here. The town is obviously suffering in this economy but you can't go wrong with staying here and patronizing the local establishments.

This is the only motel probably within a 50 mile radius and is conveniently halfway into a short loop through the central Cascades. So it would probably get business even if it was less than nice. But the Darrington Inn is lovely and a wonderful experience, for an incredibly reasonable price. Our room was huge, with a comfortable queen bed with nice bedding, even a handmade quilt, a table with two chairs, a desk, two upholstered chairs, a minifridge, coffeemaker and microwave. I liked that the sink vanity was outside the bath so two people could use the facilities more easily. The room had sliding glass doors leading out to a patio and yard with picnic tables and a view from the bed of a snow capped peak framed against the blue sky. The owner/hostess of the Inn is a very talented painter and the room was decorated with charming designs -- the headboard was a panoramic landscape of people hiking and biking in a mountain meadow and there were floral and hummingbird designs handpainted on the walls.

Shortly after we awoke in the morning, the hostess called our room to invite us to breakfast in the lobby. She served us fresh waffles with homemade rhubarb-strawberry sauce, turkey bacon, toast and juice -- a nice surprise we did not expect. I imagine she can only do this when there are few people staying (I think there were only 3 parties there that night). The little bistro tables in the lobby are also decorated with her wonderful illustrations of the region and numerous framed paintings cover the walls as well. She also has a pair of "life"sized Sasquatch creatures (male and female) painted on the side of the motel that you can take a photo of to "prove" you've spotted the elusive legend.

We stayed as a couple but this would be an excellent option for a family with kids, having such a spacious room and the nice outdoor space for them to blow off steam.

You can walk a few steps to the local grocery store, which was handy to get some snacks for packing hiking lunches. We even made dinner in our room with the microwave, since we checked in too late to find a restaurant open.

It was a great overnight stay -- we would have loved to linger but had to get back to Seattle for our flight home and couldn't stay longer. But we plan to go back to the area next year to explore some more and this would be my first choice for an extended "base camp".

This is exactly the kind of place I like -- clean, honest, and friendly. It's not fancy, but well-kept and well-loved. The owners even made us breakfast! If you're looking for a spa and gourmet dining, you're not going to Darrington anyway. I very much look forward to coming here without my terrorist toddler to get some true peace and quiet.

Upon checking in, the owner asked me if we would be staying in the room for a while or if we'd be going out immediately because she still needed to switch the summer comforters to fall comforters. I told her we'd be going out. She responded with, "Oh, good. I'm almost done sewing them!"

Room Tip: We stayed in the ground floor rooms and really liked them.
