Just go there. It's the real deal - simple, elegant, unpretentious, but pampered, and in a spectacular setting on the best of all the San Juan Islands. You can sail from there (we did), if you have a boat, you can moor there, it's also right in the middle of the island, so convenient to Eastsound, Olga, Doe Bay, as well as an easy trip from Orcas Village.

Room Tip: We stayed in the 1500 series and had a waterfront room with a balcony that literally hung over the w...

If you haven't visited Rosario for a while you should. Almost every inch of the property has been restored. The rooms are great and reasonably priced. The restaurant and bar have very good food and drinks in a beautiful view setting. The spa, pools and work out areas are great. Staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Our rooms were clean and well-maintained. Gorgeous views of the ocean. We liked how there was a separate 'family' pool for kids. We ate at the bar one night and thought the drink menu and food was very good and the bartender was nice and fun to talk to. The historically-significant parts of the hotel are really interesting and worth a walk through. We would definitely stay again.

First off, and I haven't seen this mentioned by anyone, no air conditioning in the rooms. This wouldn't be a problem if you could open the sliding door to the cool air, but in the Skagit building, the balcony connects to the ground. Otherwise, this is an excellent place to visit.

I have wanted to stay at Rosario's for many years. We actually bid on a silent auction certificate two years ago but, as teachers, were not able to stay in their time frame. We were in Hillside 2100 and I was dismayed at how far they were from the main resort and restaurant. The room was fine (although little view) until nightime struck. A unit below us had a glaringly bright light that shone directly in our room. We had dinner at the restaurant and our waitress (Kelsie) was a sweetie, but the manager was snotty when we arrived for dinner. A llarge group of 10 or 12 was seated close by and their noise was too much. We asked to have our dessert and coffee in the "lounge" and ended up on rockers by the toilets! The meal was excellent and expensive, but the unorganized seating put a big damper on our evening. Large groups in a small venue should be placed elsewhere. Overall, I had waited a long time for Rosario's and was disappointed in the overall experience. I loved Orcas island but will not return to Rosario's.

Dear Alison T,

I apologize that your experience at Rosario did not live up to your expectations. I have talked with our dining room managers, and they were extremely apologetic for your experience and remember the night exactly due to the very loud group dining. I do hope you will consider returning to Rosario in the future and would appreciate a direct call so I can help arrange your visit.

Poorly stocked kitchen.. they had a few cups, a few plates, and one pot.. that's about it. And looks like housekeeping took a vacation as well... ants crawling all over the kitchen. The main resort has a small spa area and no steam room. Small but good outdoor pool though.

I have attempted to reach out to this guest to find out more about their visit, including when they stayed and what room #, as these are issues I have not heard about recently. We do have occasional ant outbreaks each spring (common in the Pacific Northwest), but it is immediately addressed and mostly controlled by our year ‘round pest control program. If guests have issues like these during their stay, it is very much appreciated if they contact me immediately so we may address the situation during their visit. I apologize the kitchen was not stocked as it should be, a definite oversight on our part.

Having observed the changes in Rosario Resort over the last 25 years, I am pleased to report that the new owners have made positive improvements to the rooms, restaurants, spa and pool areas. This historic site is one of the most special places in the San Juans with an interesting history dating back to the early 1900's. In the last 30 years it has suffered from some poor management and questionable "improvements" that have fallen into disrepair until recently. Even though the new owners plan to tear down these 70's style buildings, they made a real effort to improve the rooms in one of them and have created the best waterview value on Orcas. These king bed rooms with Harbor and water views are only $159 per night in the HIGH SEASON ($119 in the low season!!), are freshly redone with new beds, linens and wide screen TV. The Moran Mansion retains its historic charm and the restaurant is now first class in food and service. The water view outdoor pool is breathtaking in its view of Eastsound (the waterway, not the town) and the spa provides all the services of a deluxe accommodation. Having a boat marina with available slips to rent on a nightly basis is a big plus for yachting enthusiasts. The recently renovated 135' Acania of 1930's vintage pulled into the main dock the night we stayed and lit up the night. The Tacoma Yacht Club occupied most of the marina on our next stay and added a lot of fun to the restaurant and lounge that night. Kudos to all the front desk and restaurant staff for fine service during both of our stays this summer.

Room Tip: 1310 and 1312 have nice water views of the harbor
