Was a little nervous that and "all day kayak excursion" might be too much for someone who just takes an exercise class 3x/ week and has next to no kayaking experience... But our guide, Shawn, was ultra-mellow and a good teacher. He explained all the necessary information before we headed out. Hubby and I had our best day of vacation out on the water with Shearwater Kayak Tours. Loved being out in our boat looking at star fish and jelly fish, observing the island from another perspective... Lunch on another island allowed us to stretch our legs, do a little hiking, use the bathroom. (Nice out houses await, never fear).
Our group consisted of 6 adults with our tour guide, Shawn. Perfect.

We signed-up for the six-hour kayak tour and Darren was an excellent guide--great knowledge of local geography, history, and he pointed out wildlife all while making sure the group had a safe and fun time. You will get a great workout!

Took 8 on out and had a great time; keep it to less than 4 hours unless your group has lots of experience. Some were a bit tired at the end! Saw eagles, otters and seals!

My family and I had a wonderful three hour tour with Sean around Deer Harbor bay. He was attentive to the last detail, and was very helpful in pointing out details of the surrounding beauty. Even my 8 year old and 6 year old were paddling along, having a great time. Sean reviewed all the proper safety instructions so that we were comfortable and confident out on the water. I'd highly recommend this tour as a peaceful way to take in the beauty of the San Juan Islands.

We just completed a two week road trip exploring Washington and Oregon. We spent three days in the San Juan Islands - including the 4th. Our guide was Corey. Corey's first priority was our safety. Our daughters 15 and 18 were with us. He had a great understanding of the activity and an exceptional knowledge of the area. We spotted a whale on our tour! The only thing that would have made it better would be to have a lasting photo. It's not recommended that you take a camera or your cell phone for obvious reasons. It'd be great if Shearwater would take a picture of you while out on the deep blue sea. That's just a minor thing - great time, great staff, and a great thing to do while visiting Orcas Island.
