We loved our stay at Orcas Suites at Rosario! We were blessed to have room 1504. The view was breathtaking! While the furnishings were a little outdated (I wouldn't sit on the old sofa in the room) I don't believe we were ripped off by any means. The office staff was amazingly nice and helpful. We did not spend a lot of time in our room, except to sleep. Yes, if you plan on sitting in your room and watching tv, you might be disappointed. But there is so much to do and see on the island, that you'll be sorry if you don't get out and see it!

The room we had shared an entry door with another room. Our neighbors weren't very respecful, and slammed their door whenever they entered/exited. Yes, you can hear other guests. But again, we'd come back and stay here in a heartbeat!

PS: Be sure to get to the top of Mount Constitution!!

My fiance and I stayed here while we attended a wedding on the island. The water views from the balcony are fantastic and unobstructed, as all of the buildings are situated on a steep hill overlooking the bay. It was nice and quiet, and the room and bathroom were spacious. The T.V. is slightly older and the rooms are a bit warm, as most inns on the island do not have or need air conditioning. However, it is such a beautiful island with so much to explore that the T.V. isn't needed.

Cell service is spotty out here, so don't plan to rely on it. But that's much of this part of the island and not specific to the hotel. The cell phone service is much better in town.

We just returned from Orcas Suites and it was wonderful! The view from our room was so beautiful. We were high on a cliff overlooking the marina and the Rosario Mansion. We had a 2 bedroom suite with a full kitchen. It was huge!! One bedroom had a king and the other had 2 queens (really queens, not doubles!) and the living room also had a pullout sofa. The 2 bathrooms each had 2 sinks and were stocked with lovely shampoos/conditioners/lotions. They were very clean!! Carol, who supervised our building was so wonderful. She brought us extra towels each day! She gave our kids apples to feed the deer that came down from the hills behind our room. They eat right out of your hand!!! What fun for our kids!
The women at the front desk could not have been more friendly or helpful. Lori - I hope I am spelling her name correctly - was so very nice. She gave us suggestions about hikes and outings and even made sure there was a DVD player in our room because the cable was still out. Thanks Lori for making our stay so enjoyable!
We used the pool at Rosario which was heated and fun for the kids. We went on a whale watching tour which left from the dock in front of the hotel! We went to the top of Mt. Constitution in Moran State Park which is also next to the hotel! We absolutely loved listening to the organ/piano recital and talk in the Rosario Mansion. It was so amazing to walk around the Mansion and see the rooms exactly as they were in the early 1900s.
We loved the San Juan Islands and Orcas Island in particular. We thought Orcas Suites was beautiful and it fit us perfectly. We stayed in the building that is under some construction but they didn't work over the weekend. We left on a Monday morning and Lori even called us to make sure it was o.k. for them to start working!!
We look forward to the day we can make it back to Orcas Suites!

We stayed two nights here because only one night was available at the Rosario Resort. We really enjoyed our stay at the Rosario only to be totally disappointed to have to move to this hotel. We were placed on ground level in the highest complex. The 'water view' described was merely a glimpse of water behind evergreens and overlooking an ugly metal building that I believe was the laundry? Lots of workers coming and going. It would have been nice to know when taking two older kids that there would be no TV. When I questioned it, I was told it had been out 'a couple of days' when others told me differently. Walls were thin with the plumbing loud. The shampoo bottle was half empty and the conditioner bottle 1/4 empty with the lable worn off. Ick--obviously used. On the first morning one package of coffee and two creamers. The second morning they had added creamers but one looked like it had been washed with a dirty rag. I used another only to have it blop out like cottage cheese--spoiled. They are obviously not cycling their ammenities. Staff was not unfriendly--really pleasant actually. It simply is not worth the money. More like an $80 room. I frankly would like our money back. Take your own shampoo etc. and some walking shoes---it is a long walk to the shore and pool with a big return hike uphill.

Orcas Suites are located in a wonderful place and the rooms are comfortable. One problem is that these rooms have very little insulation (?) and nosie travel from the outside in, between rooms, and especially from rooms above you. Another problem was the complete failure of the TV system that lasted the entire week we were there and no considerations for a reduction in the rates. If you like good internet service - don't expect it here!!! The staff were very friendly and helpful. There might be better places to stay on this beautiful island.

A large group of friends stayed here in July for a wedding weekend and we were all happy with our accomodations in various buildings. The view was awesome...high on a hill overlooking the water. It was very cool watching the seaplanes land and the people on their boats coming into the marina. There is a restaurant/store within walking distance which was very convenient, especially for breakfast, and it was fun to sit at an outdoor table. There is a hiking trail on the property which we would have explored if there had been more time...also, an oudoor pool w/loungers. We had a wondeful stay! (My only concern was that our room had poor water pressure in the shower and I did mention this to the gal at the front desk.)

My husband and I recently traveled to Orcas Island and stayed here. Having never been to the island before we spent quite some time reviewing the lodging options beforehand and selected Orcas Suites. Though it was on the higher end ($200/night) of prices we typically pay we decided to splurge a little for this trip. Sadly we found that the room and place wasn't quite up to par. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable, something a foam or pad could have easily fixed but they apparently decided to skip. The bathroom was a little dirty with mold visible in the shower and around the sink drain. It was also easy to hear all the other patrons when they were in their room and most annoyingly whenever the room next door opened/closed their door ours would move rather loudly from the pressure/wind movement which was not pleasant in the late night or early morning. We went for relaxation and came back more tired than before due to the bad bed and noise. Generally speaking I think there are better places on the island for this price. They should lowered their prices to reflect the actual quality that way you know a little more about what you are getting and not expecting a really nice room.
