The Anchorage Inn totally exceeded our expectations. The manager and owners were very friendly and helpful, they offered good suggestions on places to visit and restaurants. The location is a little out of the way but, the seclusion and quietness is worth it. If you are looking for a relaxing, quiet vacation; we would highly reccomend the Anchorage Inn!

I stayed at The Anchorage Inn with my partner, looking for a quiet weekend at a scenic location. We definitely got our wish. The rooms and property are charming, with a beautiful view of the water. The studio suites are detached from the owner's house, so you avoid the feeling that you can get from other B&B's of staying in a stranger's home.

Our room was very clean, had a stereo, gas fireplace, a very comfortable bed and a kitchenette. The property also has a BBQ and gazebo where we cooked and ate our dinner one night.

There is a typical Northwest beach (i.e. small rocks) on the property. It was a perfect place to look for sealife such as tons of colorful seastars, at low tide.

We definitely will be back!

The Anchorage Inn is a wonderful place to stay while visiting Orcas Island. The rooms are clean and beautiful with the added feature of a fireplace, kitchen and a bottle of port to welcome you upon your arrival.

You get some of Sandra's fresh baked goods each day for you breakfast. Don't forget to check out the jacuzzi - it overlooks the ocean and you have complete privacy because only one room can use it at a time. We stayed a week and I did not want to leave.

The Anchorage Inn was quite a treat! The peaceful setting in the woods, the views of the water and the yummy homemade breakfasts were all fantastic. The hosts greeted us warmly and made suggestions for activities we could do while on the Island (kayaking, boat trips, scenic flights, shopping, etc). We explored the Inn's private beach at low tide and found tidepools and rocks teeming with sealife...tiny crabs and purple and orange starfish by the dozens! We also saw blue heron, eagles, deer, and rabbits from the property. The town is only an 8-minute drive away, but for nature-lovers that want to get away from it all, this is the perfect place to be!

The Anchorage is a wonderful B&B. The grounds are large so you feel alone in the forest. Except for the owners house, there are no other neighbors that you can see. The views through the fir trees to Mt Moran and across the sound to the village of Eastsound are spectacular. There are only three units and each is well-supplied with a refridgerator, microwave (no range), dishes and flatware, as well as other amenities, such as books and even a small carafe of sweet sherry with glasses. Breakfast (quiche, granola, yogurt, fresh fruit, juices, etc.) is served to your room the previous afternoon so you can eat and go as you like. Our room, Seascape, is the corner room and probably has the best view. It has a small corner table, a gas fireplace in the corner for heat, queen bed, a bend-wood rocker, and other chairs and tables. The small deck outside has a table and two chairs. Quite a spacious and confortable unit.
The beach is minimal, but we are not into pacific northwest beaches. Just above the the beach is a two person swinging rocker, protected from the wind, with lovely water and mountain views. The hot tub (102 oF) has an equally nice view over the sound, but we haven't tried that yet.
The owners are very welcoming and the grounds with its gardens are well kept. They have numerous bird feeders on the property, and there are song birds everywhere. There is also a young deer who seems to be another resident of the property. There paths are well-maintained.
We had a very relaxing and enjoyalbe stay at the Anchorage and highly recommend it for couples. If you are looking for quiet at an unhurried pace, this the place.

First the good parts:

The gazebo was wonderful. They have both a gas grill and a charcol grill nearby ready for use.

The grounds are gorgeous. The drive there was through thick woods. There was a nearby vegatable garden.

The staff was amazing. They were very attentive without being underfoot. They were incredible at anticipating our needs.

The view from the hot tub at night was incredible.

Now the not so good parts:

The rooms were spacious, but pretty standard B&B variety. The private decks were little more that expanded landings at the head of the stairs.

The "private beach" consisted of twenty yards of rocky shoreline accessible only via a steep path. They did have a nice bench up from the beach to sit and read on, but the beach itself was not very inviting.

Sharing a two-person hot-tub between three couples can be rather problematic. Each suite can look down into the "private" hot-tub. One night, we waited over an hour for it to get free. When we finally were able to use it, the water had a thin film of oil and dead skin from the last users. It was not exactly inviting. We had to wait another half hour for the filters to do their job.

Breakfast was a big disappointment. They slip something into your frig the night before, and you are expected to microwave it in the morning. The first morning's fare was okay. The second day's was terrible. The microwave nuked all the enjoyment out of it. Later that day, we compared notes with another couple who were staying there. They agreed with us about the disappointing breakfast. Is it too much to ask that for the money we were shelling out to be served something fresh for breakfast? At least have it as an option.

If you have any difficulty getting up or down stairs, go elsewhere. This is not the place for you. Each of the rooms are reached by long steep stairs. The beach and the hot-tub are reached by steep paths, the steepest being the one to the beach.

Bottom-line, the views are incredible; the staff is extremely attentive; but the food is no-great shucks, and the promise of private beach and hot-tub must be taken with a grain of salt.

We had a wonderful stay at The Anchorage Inn. Judy, Sandra, and Dick were all gracious, friendly, and helpful with our requests and conversations.

The property sits on a bluff over the water in a beautiful forested area. The long, private driveway to the property tells you that you are headed for something special. The trees go right up to the water. The views of the water are great. The variety of birds, flowers, and foliage around the property will delight your senses. Deer will occasionally stroll the grounds.

The Inn has only three suites, so it has a nice, intimate quality. Each suite has its own porch looking out over the water. Our suite, Eagle's Nest, was very clean and nicely furnished. Each suite has a kitchenette stocked with utensiles, coffee, tea, and snack goodies. One of our favorite things was coming back each afternoon to see what was left in our suite for breakfast the next morning. It's written on a menu board in your kitchen. We love being able to decide ourselves when to wake up, instead of being told when breakfast will be served in a dining room. Each breakfast was a wonderful combination of a hot entree, fruit dishes, yogurts, breads, and juice. Take it out to the porch, and enjoy it with the wonderful view.

And, ohh.... the hot tub! If you can't get into lounging in a private, two-person hot tub that sits on a wooded bluff right over the water with an amazing view, you need some serious help.

Or... take the short path down to the private beach, and read while listening to the water lap at the shore.

Now for the issues that may affect some people. First, this is not a place for kids. Second, because of the stairs to the suites, and the paths to the hot tub and beach, mobility disabilities could be a problem. Third, while the property is wonderfully quiet overall, it is under the flight path of the small local airport. We're talking small planes going overhead ocassionally. So, if you're looking for a Skinner-box type of dead silent experience here, you might be disappointed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Anchorage Inn. Thank you Judy, Sandra, and Dick.
