Ellensburg KOA
Reviewed 11 July 2013

Our family camped here on our way to Seattle. We made reservations, but when we arrived the campground wasn't full so we were asked if we would like to change our site for one "along the river." When we pulled into our site, it was right next to the Yakima River which is a small, tree-lined river. From our campsite we enjoyed watching birds flying along the water, and several rafters floated by us as well. If you stay here consider asking for one of these sites.

This is a fairly small campground with basic facilities. The bathrooms are older but were clean. It is a short drive to Ellensburg where you can find a few privately owned shops.

My wife and I just purchased this beautiful KOA in August 2017 and we can't take credit for "back then", but we did want to respond and ask you to visit us again.

The campground is perfect. Granted there is road noise BUT if you are from the city that should not bother you all that much. The amenities were perfect, included was washrooms, free showers, fire pits, a wee store, pool, and two playgrounds. The pools are small BTW and crowded.

Some pointers; Bring your own firewood or go into town and buy it at Fred Meyer. You will save about $3 a bundle. The wood they sell is great and burns well BUT you go through it fast and at $6 a bundle can become expensive. For the tenters bring your own water. The tent sites do not have water only one site does out of all of them. They do have a wash station set up with water but for ease and convenience bring the old fashioned blue water tank. Also note, if you plan on blowing up air mattresses the tent sites DO NOT have electricity either so make sure your car has an adapter or bring a generator. Also remember to turn your car on to keep the juices flowing. Our car battery died once ha!

Also the folks that run the campground are great. Very kind and when you call to make reservations they walk you through the map online and help you chose the right spot for you. Very helpful and actually do a needs assessment on the phone. I was very pleased with our experience and I have been camping be it car, RV, hiking, and in snow all my life. We were taking new campers out with us so this was the perfect introduction to camping for them. The sites along the river BTW rock!

Room Tip: mentioned above on good sites. All the river sites are good for RVs and tents. Avoid the big lawn fo...
