On a recent trip to the Olympic Peninsula with friends we decided to stay in Forks to maximize our time visiting the Hoh Rain Forest and the Washington coast.

The Olympic Suites was a pleasant surprise. This is a former condo or apartment complex refurbished as a motel. We rented 2 King Suites (1 BR) which were very spacious and clean. Each had a complete kitchen and rear balcony with views into the woods. Overall a very serene atmosphere.

The only negative ...... AAA is the only discount program. Very unusual not to offer senior discounts. As for local Forks dining, we ate at The Place which turned out NOT to be satisfactory.......service was much too slow (restaurant was not busy) and the food marginal.

Desk clerk told us the place was built as apartments but converted to a motel. We had a 2 bedroom unit and it was very comfortable. It had a full galley kitchen (pots, pans, utensils, dishes, etc. were an extra $15 a day), full size refrigerator, stove, microwave and sink. Coffee and coffee maker was provided. Lots of room but we had to share the spacious single bathroom. Great value for 2 couples sharing the cost. Would have been a great place for a long term stay.

Room Tip: Off the main highway so it was more quiet than other places in town that were right on the road.

We stayed here one night last week. I actually was shocked at how much the hotels in the area charge. If it wasn't for Twilight (which I have never even read), these hotels would never get the prices they were asking for. We picked this one on the recommendation of someone else. The outside looks pretty nice and it is in a private setting with nice landscaping. The service was fine. It was the room that was not so great. The first thing my husband did was tell my daughter and I to stay outside for a moment. Apparently as he was going in he saw a large hobo spider on the floor. My daughter and I are afraid of spiders. He took care of the spider and proceeded to check everywhere for more just to be sure. We found a couple of more bugs living on the walls, but thankfully no more spiders. The room was actually very likely a former two bedroom apartment. There was a lot of space and a kitchen. We only used one bedroom and the bathroom. It was dated and some things were not clean. At first glance, the bathroom looks updated and decent, but looking a little closer I noticed the top of the hair dryer and outlet next to the sink in the bathroom were coated in dust and the ceiling in the bathroom housed a large bug and many bug carcasses. The lights in the bathroom had quite a few dead bugs in them. The drain in the tub was stuffed with old hair. The carpet was old and I am not sure it was clean. The lampshade next to the bed had a large stain on it. The bed was comfortable however sleep was difficult. We use a white noise machine which usually drowns out a lot of annoying noises. However, the people above us were walking around until about midnight and every step made the ceiling above us creak loudly. It was pretty annoying. The kitchen seemed pretty nice with decent appliances and granite counters, but I noticed a sign that said you could use a few things like the coffeemaker and microwave, but you had to pay additional fees to use the rest of the kitchen. I don't have super high standards, but for over $100 for one night in Forks, this was disappointing.

As we drove into town past the very worn hotels on the noisy main road, we were VERY happy to arrive here, off the beaten path. This is certainly an apartment complex converted to hotel. We had a one bedroom with 2 queen beds...a little tight, large full living room with dining table, porch, nice rural private view of trees and brush out the back, full bath, full kitchen (paid extra $10 night for kitchen ware which is odd they didn't just include it?) Daily maid service, fast free internet, quiet. We stayed here 2 nights for great access to Olympic National Park. The only downside was a waterproof mat on the bed that wrinkles up and was uncomfortable. I would stay here again.

It was a last minute decision we took to stay here against our original idea of staying in another place at Forks. We were relieved with our decision and more than happy too. This is like a one bedroom apartment...and the layout is nicely designed. We had rented the one with double beds and kitchen on the ground floor. To rent the stove with pots and pans was a $10 extra and we had called a day earlier to take that facility(good decision as Forks has no choice of restaurants). Everything about this place was comfortable. The only issue if that could be, was that footsteps from the top floor could be heard at times...we did not hear any on the first day, but on the second day we heard a few of them -didn't bother our sleep, so was okay for us:) If we would be in that area again, we would certainly stay here again!
