We decided to head out to Ocean Shores for a weekend, after an almost unbearably hot week in the Seattle area. Some friends of our met up with us there, and stayed at the Shiloh Inn in Ocean Shores. We opted for this place, partly because of the price, but mostly because every other room for 50 miles was taken. Evidently we weren't alone in wanting to head to the beach.
They gave us a room right next to the laundry room, downstairs. Bad idea, especially considering we had our dogs. Every time someone walked by, or opened the door to the laundry room, they would bark. Also, people would just loiter in front of our room, waiting for their clothes to finish. We tried to get a different room, but they were sold out. There were kids in the parking lot yelling, evidently with no parental figures. I don't know how they were able to rent a room. We called the front desk to complain, but they didn't answer the phone .We ended up having to tell them ourselves.
The room looks dated and the bed was lumpy and well worn. They look like they painted it with great haste, and little to no money. It would appear the housekeeping is done in the same manner. The comforter was stained, and there was a dirty Q-tip on the bathroom floor.
The next morning I went to get the free continental breakfast. It was coffee, Costco Danishes, bagels with an empty cream cheese container, stale cereal, room temperature milk, and a 7oz glass of OJ from concentrate. To top it off, they watch you eat, and have signs warning people that food is only to be consumed in the lobby, and isn't to be taken to the room. As if I'm going to open a restaurant with the aforementioned items on the menu in my "suite".
Upon check out, we asked the manager why they allowed the loud, evidently unaccompanied children to roam the lot yelling. They claim to have not heard them. I find that quite fantastic. When we asked why they didn't answer the phone, the lady who was the manager, and evidently the sole employee, claimed she was in the lobby all night long, and the phone never rang. Evidently picking up the phone and dialing 0 gets somebody besides the front desk. We told her all that was wrong with the room, and the stay, and after a little prodding, she offered us 10% off. She claims that is all she was authorizes to give us, even though like I said, she previously claimed to be the manager. We contacted the national office, who refunded us half of the charge. It seems like, it didn't need to come to that, and made her look foolish.
If you are looking for a cheap place to stay that tasks dogs, this will work in a pinch. Just be aware that there are many c choices of places to stay, even with dogs. It is a room with 4 walls and a roof.
