“Deceptive advertising”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 September 2013

This Hotel sounds totally wonderful on their web site, but need to be updated and their "Deluxe" ocean view was disappointing. Not even close enough to hear the wave action from our 2nd floor balcony. The buildings are wood construction and need some repairs, which is to be expected with the salt intrusion from the ocean. Too many rules and regs...ie: no more than 3 people to be on the balcony at any time. The room we had would sleep at least 4. Gee, who gets to stay inside all the time? The kitchen faucet had no aerator on it so when you turned it on, it splattered water everywhere. We asked for a 7AM wakeup call and the phone in the bedroom did not ring at all, even though I had followed their instructions to make sure the ringer was on. We found the front desk friendly and they listened to us when we made comments, but did not get the feeling they really cared.

Room Tip: Don't bother.......we won't in the future!

We got a Groupon deal and thought we would try it out. The view from the balcony is fabulous! The room on the other had is like a Motel 6 or an old Super 8. The buildings are wood, so there are spiders everywhere! I got bit the last night we were there on my head and neck and I have a huge allergic reaction and I am covered in Welts. We had the do not disturb sign on the door until 11 am, so called the front desk for them to clean our room while we were gone. We came back and the room was dirty. They never came? I called again and the ladies at the front desk are always alone and if you need something like a blow dryer or towels they ask if you can pick them up. She finally came with everything that we needed and was very apologetic, but my room was still dirty? We had a visual of a guy urinating off the balcony and instead of carrying their luggage down the stairs they dragged it. Lovely neighbors we had? It is a really long walk to the beach. One time on our way back it looked like homeless people were living in the trees next to the property?

Room Tip: They offer suites, if you can I would get a newly remodeled suite

Once again we stayed at the Chautauqua and had a great time. The front desk staff were SO nice. The internet was out on the third floor suites so they let us use a DVD player they had behind the desk. There was a tatoo festival the first weekend right there at the lodge and we had great fun people watching. It quieted right down during the week and the weather was great. Try out the Neptune Theater downtown for a good movie. We saw "The Butler" and really enjoyed it.
The gals stopped by every day to see if we needed anything for the unit and were very accomodating. We stayed in the main part of the condo and our friends stayed in the back part of the unit which is more like a hotel room. We cooked all our meals in the main unit using stove top, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, etc.

Room Tip: The third floor rooms have great views of the ocean! (And of course no kids overhead.)

We went here on a family vacation with my brother and sister and their families. All of us had issues with you rooms. They had events in the conference room that kept us up til after 1 am. When we called the front desk about the noise issue they told us to use ear plugs. We where told at check in that if we needed anything before 7pm they would bring it to our room. Yet when we called down for towels and fans we where told to come get then ourselves. We all had dogs with us. All of the pet areas where covered with thorn like plants that our dogs couldn't even walk on without hurting there paws. All the pet friendly rooms where also located on the third floor which can be a terrible inconvenience for late night or early morning potty trips. The maintenance guys where doing work on the room next door starting at 8am. They worked next door til well after 1pm slamming the door every time the entered and left the room. It was a horrible stay. We payed way more money for the room then what it was worth. When I talked to the front desk about our experience they where no apologetic and didn't seem to care if we ever came back.

I stayed here in June and over Labor Day weekend. Both were for fishing trips, so I was just trying to upgrade from camping on the cheap. My friends and I found the staff to be very helpful, the restaurant/bar was fine, and the property had very good features such as beach access, hot tub, pool, horseshoe pit, and a fish cleaning station! We were surprised by the Tattoo convention, but the band finished playing by 10 and the staff kept things in order. I was really pleased with the experience, especially for the low price.

Room Tip: Pick an upper level floor if you want a view of the ocean. We had a ground floor which was great for...

Let's start with the good. The suite was big and had a nice view.

We stayed there over Labor Day, and when I made the reservation, the clerk failed to mention that the rooms have no air conditioning, and that they had booked - and I am not kidding - the motorcycle show and tatoo convention, and there was going to be a live band and a DJ right outside our room. The room only had one window that opened, and the slider door. The front desk loaned us a pathetic, tiny fan so we ended up buying a fan at the local hardware store. The open window mostly just let in noise from the band and kept the baby awake.

The wifi only works in the suites, but that was broken all weekend. We asked about it twice and the front desk clerks had no idea what was going on, and didn't even know who to ask. I had a similar experience when I tried to check in. We showed up early, their computers were down, and they claimed to have no way of knowing if our room was clean, even thought there was staff everywhere with 2-way radios. They just asked us to come back later.

The entire complex is, apparently, in the process of being renevated. I paid extra to stay in a newly renevated room. The carpet and other flooring seemed to be new, and they had painted and put in new shower surrounds. The detail seems to have been done by someone handy, rather than by someone that knows what they are doing. The caulking aound the tub in the master bath was all pealing away, there were cracks in the Sheetrock - with new paint over them - and the shower values and shower head were quite old. There was basically almost travel between warm and hot. The shower valve in the second bathroom was in backwards. In the master bath, the fan was broken and the only light was a heat lamp. The result of taking a shower in an unventilated, un-air conditioned, heat lamp equipped bathroom in August is that you finish the shower sweating like crazy and feeling like you didn't really accomplish anything. The cable TV and phone cords were just kind of lying on the floor, strung under the window in the master bedroom. The exterior walkways were all cracked, bare floors. The whole place has a crappy appartment funk. We didn't try the pool.

This is a really big hotel and it needs a ton of work. I really don't know how they are going to fix it up, and don't like seeing anyone fail - but I am not staying there again.

Stayed here for 3 nights in August in a "suite" with ocean view.
The good; view, proximity to ocean, friendly staff, relatively clean, close to everything in LB.
The not-so-good; very dated units, very thin walls and ceilings, scheduled music on site late into evenings, uncomfortable furniture and beds.
Overall it was not a great trip for us. The noise coming through the ceiling on our last night was unbearable all night and then again very early. Not to mention some sort of band playing around midnight. The beds are in need of replacing and there was mold very evident in one of the bathrooms. The décor is 70's and has never been updated. I would not recommend this place unless you don't care about amenities and can sleep through anything.
