“Not as bad as some people think!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2014

We stayed here for two nights durning Spring Break. Of course the hotel was older and could use some TLC, but what do you expect when you pay $50 a night? The kids loved the pool. It was a beautiful walk down to the ocean and you are only blocks away from the main strip. We ate at the Lightship restaurant once for dinner. The food was good, but the tarar sauce was so overly sweet it kind of ruined the fish and chips. We will be returning here for sure!

Four stars because it could use a little maintenance. However, awesome stay here. Watched the lightening and waves crashing on the beach from our room, kids went swimming. Weather cleared up and had a great time in the dune and on the beach, right in front of the lodge. Locally owned and operated, so much nicer than a big chain. Two rooms and a kitchenette perfect for grandparents, mom, and two kids.

Went for New Year and Valentine's Holiday. 1st floor is excellent for kids and pets. Huge, complete with amenities. 3rd floor has the 180 degrees breath taking ocean view...Swimming pool, spa and jetted tub were good enough for the money. Near to restaurants, kids entertainment, good- private location for a hike towards the beach and around the town as well as bike riding.

Needs tender-love-and-care because I believe that it has an excellent potential. The resources are already there- with excellent management and excellent workers...it can soar high! Thanks Chautauqua Lodge....see you by summer!

Room Tip: 2nd and 3rd floors for ocean view, 1st floors for jumpy kids and pets

I really wanted to like this place, honestly I did. Even after reading the horrific reviews my husband and I decided to purchase a Groupon deal and hoped that the renovations were complete and that it would be acceptable. How quickly our hopes were dashed! First off, when we got to our room we found that the fireplace was broken and the bathroom toilet leaked around the base of it after being flushed. Gross! When we complained we were told this was the only room left in standard and we could upgrade to a suite for another $90! We had driven a long way so decided to try and make the best of it, only to find the 1st floor icemaker broken and the Elevator out of service. We had to walk up 3 stories just to get ice! The heater in our room also barely went above room temperature and we could never get a hotel operator to pick up the phone when we dialed for service numerous times. The final straw was when we went tothe front desk and requested late checkout and were happy tobe told we could have until 4 pm, only to be rudely told the next day that they had forgotten to check the book and had someone checking into our room later that day so we had to leave at noon. The attention to detail and service at this lodge is just AWFUL! Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere!

The Staff was very nice. How ever......
The Pool was Cold, Hot tub was hot but needed cleaned. The beds are old and hard with old comforters. The Decks were in need of repair. lots of growth on the wood. Fireplaces were rusty and not working. We had to turn up the heater to 90 to get it warm. The Carpets old and dirty. I tell you what if I was the manager here I would fire the maintenance crew and the Maids and start over. Close down the pool until it can be maintained and fix the heater. This place has potential and with the right crew this could be a nice place to stay!!!

Room Tip: You can see the ocean from the top floors

What was once a grand property with a wonderful ocean view and food and beverage on site is now one of the most run down, dingy, old, rotting properties on the coast! Dry rot in the bathroom, mattresses that look to be from the 50's, dated, stained...... I called three times to talk about their New Years Eve festivities, the reason we were there! Never did get a person to answer the phone, finally made online reservations... That was my sign! On our way over I call again, to verify the included food in this package and determine if we want to participate in that part our visit one of the wonderful eateries on the peninsula and get more info about the bands scheduled for the evening. When finally greeted by a live person on the line I was treated to a complete lack of information and a dialect of English I had a very hard time understanding.

Upon arrival, we were treated nice, information was still vague. We went to our room, found what you will see in the pics below and should have left at that time. We talked about it! Our second sign...:)

Food and music is scheduled to start @ 7pm, we go to the Lighthouse resturant and bar on the property who is catering this event to watch the games (TV in room is a glass, round screen 20" model...:) and have a drink before our event is ready. We find the best part of the property, it at least looks nice, it is however priced like a 5 star property and the bartender was turtle slow! An hour and two drinks later they tell us it will be delayed til 8pm! We make the best decision of the night and decide to taxi to The Shelburne Restaurant & Pub, great meal and service, then taxi back to hell by the beach!

Who ever is cleaning the rooms is doing a good job with what they have to work with and Pam had sighed our card. You can not make a silk purse out of a sows ear! Pam was earning her keep, I cant imagine after seeing all the people in waders and boots walking into these rooms carrying buckets of clams the mess they are dealing with.

Terrible in almost every regard!

Room Tip: Dont do it!

This place was such a let down! We were told we were getting a king spa suite for our groupon so we were pretty excited since it was going to also be my birthday weekend. The moment you walk into the building you smell that this isn't going to be so wonderful after all. Then when you open the hotel door you feel like you stepped into a dirty time capsule from the 80s. I have never seen such a gross carpet! It was pink (at some point in the 80's) covered in various stains, almost bleached out over by the patio door. I wouldn't dare take my shoes off and walk on it. The room and the entire building suffered from lack of pride in the upkeep. Outdated can work if taken proper care of but this was far from it. Along the edges of the carpet you could see the dust. The "spa" (a old jetted small tub) was equally dirty. The gas fireplace didn't work and the patio was scary to stand on. Unfortunately it was dark when we arrived so we couldn't even enjoy the view and we left shortly after arriving. The management refused to give a refund and just offered us a free night when I didn't even stay the two nights I already paid for. We ended up finding a wonderful Best Western in Astoria thankfully. I seriously recommend you go elsewhere when in Long Beach! Unless it gets cleaned up but then there are reviews on here stating they were doing a remodel back in 2011, we saw no sign of this remodel at all! Stay away unless you don't mind filth.
