“Great Stay in well remodeled hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2008

Very well done which was a suprise for a Super 8. The entire experience was very good. I found the rooms to be comfortable, nicely decorated, and very quiet. The staff was great, bed extremely comfortable, pillows wonderful too. Plus they take pets. What more could I ask. The only downfall was the lack of parking but we were still able to park in the parking lot, not out back in the grass. We will come back and stay longer.

First, we had to park in the mud across the street as the parking lot is way too small for the number of rooms they have. We made our reservations a year in advance, and got the room right across the lobby from the front desk, the worst room in the place. This is the second time we have stayed there, and the overall experience is still mediocre at best. The first time we have large cigarette burns on the carpet and chairs in the room.
During the last stay, the shower was cold, and the ability to control the temperature in the room was impossible. We had to crack the ground floor window just to keep it under 80 degrees in the room. In the morning, I got up to close the window and we had people three deep standing outside the window, as people were trying to get into a swap meet being held in the lobby. The room was noisy all night and at 4PM, I called the from desk to tell them to quit the loud discussion about his mother-in-law.
When I complained to the owners, they said I was out of line to complain and I was lucky to even have a room because you booked at the last minute. They offered me a $25 discount for my inconvenience, but that was of little consequence. Never again.

  • Liked — Close to beach

We wanted to do a last minute, quick one nighter out at the coast and we've got a dog. Hmm.... We were delighted to find a place that takes folks WITH their dogs! Got a 2 queen bed room for less than $100. Not a bad deal. Beds were new, comfy but we couldn't get the in room internet to work. Nice to have the free breakfast but I was dismayed to find not one single piece of fresh fruit available. What??? Come on, apples are cheap! Bathroom was adequate. Shower pressure was good but I had two total "freeze outs" while showering. Ugh. Nice that they put us in a room right near the door for easier access for the dog walks. Location's right on the main drag in Long Beach so you can walk to everything! All in all, we'd likely go again.

  • Liked — That they accepted our dog!!
  • Disliked — No fruit, of any kind, at breakfast buffet!

We were greeted by the resident furry person, Alli, a wonderful friendly dog and I knew this place was going to be terrific. And it turned out it was. Great location in the heart of Long Beach--near all of the attractions. The staff is friendly, courteous and very helpful. The place has a definite "visiting the family" sort of feeling.
The staff keeps the place impeccably clean and neat. The continental breakfast is a cut above the usual donuts--hard boiled eggs, waffles, bagels, muffins, cereals, fruit, good array of juices and coffees.
The rooms are well appointed. The only down-side was the lack of air-conditioning.
If you have a group, Cheryl is a great person to deal with.
The breakfast room doubles as a meeting room so it would be a good place for a business session.
Long Beach is a fun place to visit and the Super 8 is a great place to stay.

This place was ok.. Stayed here in off season, paid $139 for a room with 2 queen beds. They tried to say it was a suite, but just one big odd shaped room with a plastic room divider -- no sofa or table and chairs. Bathroom was large, but lots of wasted space. Beds were new, but extremely springy and any movement woke up bed partner. Room had 2 tv's, but room was so small you couldn't watch both at the same time. A plus was that is was very clean and didn't smell. But, was only worth $89/$99 a night at best. Hallways had that hollow feel/sound to the floor when you walked down the hall.

The continental breakfast was mediocre. What is it with orange juice in these places? They put out the weakest flavored orange colored water and call it orange juice. They did have fresh donuts from a local bakery, but other items were a bit stale. The usual for a mediocre free breakfast. Very odd setup for eating breakfast -- a long picnic type table with chairs and plastic blue table cloth. You have to sit with all others like in a chow hall.

Advice to owner: Remove chairs and sofa from this area and put them in the area across from the front desk. Get extra firm furniture, the sloppy sofa is gross. Remove the banquet table and replace it with nice, simple round tables for 2 or 3. Five or Six of these setups would be a lot better and during the morning rush you could pull a couple more out and spill them in the area closer to the front desk (and remove them later. Make the bkfast area more like a little cafe. Also move the toaster and microwave to where the bagels are... weird to walk across the whole room to toast and then walk back to butter.

Hotels are hurting themselves with these bad bkfast... I don't consider this a benefit at hotels anymore...

No Air Conditioning and poor ventilation for air in our room. The TV was something from the early 1980's and didn't work. The continental breakfast was stale donuts, bread and watery orange juice. All this joy for $130 per night. There is much better lodging in Long Beach at about half the price. We will never be back to the Super 8 in Long Beach,
