We stayed 5 nights during busy Kite Festival week, because it was the only place available when I reserved. It is ideally situated 2 blocks from the main beach entry to the boardwalk and festival events, and is in the town's center with close access to restaurants, ice cream, candy and coffee shops, etc.
We had a queen-bed room near the lobby which had plenty of rooms for our bicycles, a nice size eating table and 2 chairs, desk and chair, refrigerator and tv. Storage space is minimal: a clothes bar with a dozen or so wooden hangers (no closet), a shelf above that, two night stands each with a drawer, and 2 other drawers, as well as the table and desk surfaces and a luggage rack. There are no shelves in the bathroom. The room seemed to be clean.
The terrible bed was the worst problem. It was too soft and lumpy with noisy springs....as though the mattress had not been replaced in years. My husband developed a severe backache which we can only attribute to the bed. also, the bed was "overdressed" for summer, so we removed the top cover and kept the sheet and fleece blanket, then opened the window at night which was okay.
The towels and wash cloths were very thin and scatchy. I asked for and received an extra supply, which was provided every day thereafter.
Attention needs to be given to the lobby, which is shabby and uninviting. There is a sofa, a coffee table with newspapers, a tv and a table with coffee hot pots. A rack with information about area sights and services is along a corridor wall. The breakfast room off the lobby is a disaster....in dire need of a make-over. The laundry room was across from our room, and the door was always open, except for one time when we returned in late afternoon. It was very unsightly, noisy with big machinery that was running constantly and much clutter. The door was probably left open for staff convenience without consideration of the impression on guests. Also, on 2 or 3 days there were large orange cones left in the center of the hall or next to our door, for 24 hours at a time.....for no apparent reason....another eye sore.
Breakfast is scanty and every day I had to go to the desk to request milk and coffee. I did not realize there was yogurt until the last day when I finally guessed that the empty bowl of ice may have held yogurt and needed replenishing. There was evidently no fruit served, except for whole apples. No staff were assigned to the breakfast room, so the person at the registration desk had to leave the desk and run back to another area to get more coffee, milk or whatever needed to be re-supplied.
The staff were pleasant and responsive, but we received no tourist information when we checked in, not even about the ongoing Kite Festival. The flower beds were full of weeds and the general appearance of the place is tired and in need of an update. This place was a poor value for the relatively high nightly price, so I will find somewhere else to stay next year.
