“Good Location”
Reviewed 15 November 2013

As someone rightly said, this place goes for shabby chic in their decor. Bed stand, bathroom toiletry stand and TV stand are all made of repurposed wooden crates. Pluses - electric floor board heater worked great and QUIET. There was on-demand hot water. The bed may have been a Temperpedic (in a handmade wooden frame, of course) and was very comfortable. It is a pet friendly establishment that only charged $15 for the stay. The locally roasted organic coffee available in the lobby was very good. I was there on a Living Social special and also got two Adrift monogrammed travel coffee mugs and a lb. of their coffee. I could have gotten a discount at the Pickled Fish restaurant that is part of the hotel complex, but had other plans with friends and didn't get to use it. The beach is just a stone's throw from the hotel. A few things to be aware of: the wind did whistle through the window, which fortunately only happened one of my two nights there. I would recommend the east building because there is live entertainment at the Pickled Fish in the other building which may not be pleasing to everyone. This is an older building and you will hear the goings on of your neighbors above and below you clearly. People bounding up and down the stairs don't seem to heed the signs asking for soft voices and footsteps. I can't speak to the spa, which appeared to be in a room of the first floor of the east building. Overall, good value for the stay.

Thank you so much for writing in a review! We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and the fun hotel amenities we have to offer. When we have a full hotel both buildings can sometimes get noisy, but we always try to relocate guests when we have the capacity to give them the best stay possible. We hope you choose us again when you travel back to the area! Cheers!

They gave us three choices of rooms, we chose the cottage. Excellent. It takes a lot of cleverness to reuse old furniture, everywhere in the room and get me to like it. They even delivered a breakfast basket. Nice little veranda, and the club, upstairs dining was excellent. Dinner, a view and a band. I would go back anytime. Oh, didn't use them, but free beach cruisers were available.

Room Tip: Get the cottage if you can. It also has a studio loft available.

Appears they took a small hotel and updated the decor. No carpets in the rooms. Two different buildings. There were five groups in the hotel. You would think they would upgrade you. Good value for a beach motel. No elevator in second building. Good spot for the cost! Clean cute room. Bed was not anything special. Woke up sore. Free coffee in the morning!

This hotel is decorated in early utilitarian, kind of like a New York loft. That being said, it had everything you need, including locally produced soaps and other items, which are also for sale.

The mattress was somewhat hard, but we still got a good nights sleep. The onsite restaurant was excellent, and had interesting music featured 4 nights a week.

It is located just steps from the beach, and offered free bicycles for loan to ride the beautiful walking-bike trail on the coast, which runs for miles.

This will be a different kind of stay from the big chains, but give it a try; if you are open-minded, you will be pleasantly surprised!

Room Tip: get a room on a higher floor, if possible, and ask for an ocean view.

My husband & I had a wonderful time at Adrift. This is my kind of place - straightforward, clean, functional yet loaded with character. Basic queen room was spacious. Room amenities were just right and appreciated the hotel's mission to reduce waste. Pickled fish was fantastic! Such a charming place. Excellent food And the band that played when we went (something to do with owls?) was amazing. I especially admired the bar. The only thing I would point out about Adrift is front desk service - the front desk staff is helpful but appears nonchalant. As someone who is a front desk staff I would advise you to simply smile when greeting the guest that approaches. It's easy to do and does a lot for the guest on the other side. Other than that, we'll definitely be back to Long beach & Adrift!

Good things: The hotel is right on the beach and they provide free bikes if you want to ride along the path that runs in the dunes by the beach.
The coffee and tea in the lobby are excellent.
Free game and DVD rentals.
They recycle everything!
The Pickled Fish restaurant was excellent. One of the items we had was the locally foraged mushroom pizza. It was amazing! The lavender lemonade was also very tasty. Make reservations though! The place was packed (Fri night).
The beds were comfortable (but not memory foam in our room, as some other reviews have mentioned) and they gave us earplugs (which came in handy).
The toiletries (although not individual) smelled so yummy!

Could be improved:
No instructions on how to use the TV/DVD player or the three different remote controls.
Slow WiFi.
The "minimalist chic" was a bit too minimalist. The rooms looked like they could be updated a bit (especially the bathroom). The bed 'frame' was basically a wood pallet on the floor. The one chair in the room was a metal patio chair. The sick wasn't even in the bathroom, it was in the room by the door.
No fridge in the room. From the other reviews, it appears that some of the rooms have a fridge, but ours didn't. If that's something you need, be sure to request a room with one.

Overall it was a nice stay in a perfect location. The hotels has no 'bells and whistles', but it served it purpose and was a lot more fun to stay in than a chain hotel. Coming back would be an option if the price was right.
