My family and I went to the Cassoulet Cafe to celebrate my mother's 90th birthday. There were 6 of us and everyone raved about their breakfast. My father had French toast with a locally sourced blueberry compote and house-made bacon. I haven't seen him eat that much in ages (he's 90 as well). We were seated at one end of a long table and another party was seated at the other. Most of the tables were for 4 people. It is not a huge space and not perhaps the best location in the world -- not that Hinote's Corner is bad but strip malls can be depressing. On the other hand, there was lots of parking. Some of us ordered drinks (it was a birthday party after all) and I had a most interesting Bloody Mary. Rather than being fiery hot it had a slosh of olive juice in it giving it a nice depth of flavor -- think of a dirty martini. I ordered a Croque Madame without the egg and thought it was great. The house-made sourdough bread was crusty and nicely chewy, there was lots of cheese and just the right amount of sauce, not at all gloppy (I hate that). My partner ordered a chicken-fried steak and eggs and did all but lick his plate. Overall, I think we all liked the food. My only caveats would be that (1) the restaurant was chilly, (2) this is not a place to go when you are in a hurry (the service was slow but the food arrived piping hot) and (3) some might find it spendy. I found the experience to be worth it. Other reviews have mentioned how the quality has slipped. If that is so, it must have been truly phenomenal as I think it's still dang good.
