“Moonstone, a clean room on a beautiful beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 February 2014

The location is what makes this place! We loved our casual stay at Moonstone. It was perfect for our grandson, whose imagination ran wild on the beach. The room was sufficient for us. We brought all of our food and there was adequate cooking facilities to prepare all of our meals. We loved waking up to see the surf from our room.

Honestly the only feedback we had at all was that the menus in the rooms were out of date for the restaurants. When we got there they didn't have anything even similar. But who really cares? We had great food, a great view and an incredibly peaceful time at the moonstone. We loved that she was a little rough around the edges, this place is full of character. We were treated to three beautiful sunny days in January. How can you really complain?? Thank you so much for the

This was our third trip over the years and it still holds it's charm. Has everything one needs for a stay at the ocean. Unobstructed ocean view, easy access to the beach and a great value. Even though things are a bit dated and the ceiling in the bathroom was a challenge for my 6'2" husband we enjoyed our stay. Missed the bright orange exterior paint, but the blue blends in better with the surrounding landscape. Look forward to the new digs next year. Thanks for a peaceful weekend getaway.

Room Tip: Room 6 on the second floor has two swing rockers facing the ocean and only one attached neighbor.

We've stayed at the Moonstone a few times now, and it's always great. Yes, the motel is older and some say the décor needs updating, but what a view! Jim and Patty are awesome and do everything they can to make your stay the best it can be. Personally we will miss the old building when it's gone, it has so much history, but we will definitely be back for many more years to come. Our dogs love this place almost as much as we do!

My family, friends and dogs have been regulars at the Moonstone for 15 years. You can't beat the value for the oceanfront location. This aging motel, to be replaced after new construction next door is complete, has never been so well maintained as by the current managers. The units are clean and well-stocked. As we looked out on the surf during breakfast, the housekeeper stopped by to squeegee our windows. This made crystal clear what was already a fantastic view. For dogs, you can't beat the setup. Just a few steps out the front door to the dunes and ocean.

If you're looking for updated decor, restaurants, wi-fi or reliable cellular service, save yourself the heartache and go somewhere else. If you're seeking a quiet beach getaway for quality time with yourself and your loved ones, it could be just right.

We've stayed at the Moonstone over a 20-year period. Initially, we focused on the uneven quality of the beds, the short-ceilinged showers tucked into crowded corners, and the aging structure. Our dogs were smarter. They adore the beach access, the grassy lawn, the sun and sand. And when all is said and done, that's why we go to the beach. The Moonstone is lovely and full of history, harking back to a time when there were no $200 rooms available at the beach and people were grateful to have a warm room, a place to cook, and plenty of time to play with kids and dogs. We've stayed in every room (Room 1 was the latest) and the cottage. In fact, the dogs believe it's "our" cottage and have to be reminded that not everybody wants a sandy standard poodle in their living room. We'll miss the old building when it goes but will always have the Moonstone as a touchstone in the years ahead. While we have wonderful memories of group birthday celebrations with friends from across the globe, the highlights for us remain those intimate times when it's just us and the pups.

Room Tip: Our favorite reservations are Room 8 (the cottage) and Room 1, both dog-friendly, spacious and easy...

My best friend and I just spent our annual trip at Moonstone again. This was our 9th year. We adore this quiet beach, after Labor Day, and the relaxation it always brings. Jim and Patty, the Managers, are the best that Moonstone has ever had. Now for the sad part, the property is so run down that we won't be back until the new motel is completed. I've been able to see past the decline for several years, but this trip was the tipping point for me. Stay tuned for the new construction, which sits adjacent to the old motel, it's underway!

Room Tip: Nothing I can share at this point. They are all falling apart.
