“Deception Pass Tours”

We tried to go on this tour but discovered that they had switched to the fall schedule. This in itself was okay but what we found disappointing was that we checked with the ticket sales on Sunday and were not told that the brochure she was handing out was not accurate. Also went on line to check times and the website said open April to October with about 5 trips a day but no mention of reduced times or dates. So we missed a tour we really wanted to take. We spent over an hour the morning we wanted to go running around trying to find information - the marina sent us to the dock which sent us to the ticket sales by the bridge which was closed so we went to the office which was also closed. A very friendly gentleman finally told us that the tours were not running.

“A fun ride on a beautiful day”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 August 2013

It was so much fun going under the Deception Pass Bridge and learning more of the history of the area. We saw 2 Bald Eagles. The seating was very comfortable. The crew even worried about if we were warm enough and had jackets to give out.

“Great ride & guides but support staff bad”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2013

The boat ride and guides on the boat were great. Awesome experience going under both bridges and they provide many photo opportunities. If you have the time and can afford the cost it is great.

Unfortunately the people in the store were rude and obnoxious. We are from Oregon and they REFUSED to waive the sales tax, which we don't have to pay with proof of Oregon residency. "We don't do that" she said, because they don't want to. On a very expensive (to us) side trip the sales tax was a lot. If there were options, just because of her attitude I would have gone to a competitor but there were none. I also asked to be on the last boat ride of the day and she refused to book us on it. This would have been a 5 star review were it not for the girls in the store.

Also, as others have mentioned, you will have to park in the state park area. This will cost you an additional $10. (Which she mentioned as we were walking out the door in a tone that bugged me.) Get a late ride as late in the day that you can get to get a great sunset and use the park pass early in the day to go to other parks like Fort Ebey or other state parks in the area.

“Fun ride, great information, terrific staff”

The one-hour tour through Deception Pass on the jet boat was fun, entertaining and enlightening. The captain was skilled in navigating the fast currents during peak flood tide when we were there. The scenery, even on a foggy day was stunning. We saw harbor seals with their pups up close, bald eagles, deer, and other wildlife. We learned about the history of the area, its discovery and use for mining and prison activities. The guide was extremely well-informed and personable, and the kids on the trip enjoyed it as much as the adults. The distance traveled isn't far, but the changing viewpoints makes the views extremely variable, so no boredom at all. The boat is much alrger than expected, with bus-like seating on the top open deck. take a jacket even on warm days, because the narrow strait is cooler than other parts of the islands.

“A great adventure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2013

We were on the first boat out this year, on a March Sunday 2013. An extremely well run operation from safety to actually seeing whales.

We got to see a large gray whale and so very much more.

The craft they use wastes no time getting you where the whales are reported.
