“Frankly speaking”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 March 2014

I have been to Frank's place half a dozen times. Breakfast is breakfast. Not bad but not outstanding. Walls are covered with Navy memorabilia. Service is sometimes good and sometimes Sheesh! I think it depends on the mood in the kiichen or whether the waitress is having an off day. You never can tell. Having said that, it offers more and better choices than the fast food joints. You just can't get bad coffee in Oak Harbor. At least if there is a bad cup somewhere in town; I ain't found it yet.

“Good home cookin' breakfast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 March 2014 via mobile

Franks has really improved in cleanliness and less clutter in the past few years. It's simple, old fashioned and good! I personally love the Rice Bowl with Gravy, eggs and Spam. Whenever my daughter comes home from college, she HAS to have their biscuits and gravy.

Unpretentious, no fancy coffee here.... Just a good ol' diner.

“A good value for breakfast”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2013

There are not too many breakfast options in Oak Harbor. Frank's was next door to our hotel so we decided to give it a try. The decor is very dated, though very patriotic with its military memorabilia. Service was prompt and friendly. My eggs and sausage were good. My husband said his eggs and ham were also good but he would have liked a larger portion of ham. Toast does not come with any breakfast, it is an add on for $1.75. If you want an average breakfast at a great price, Frank's is a good choice.

“Mixed review”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2013

We came here for breakfast, which it is known for (all day). My husband is a spam fan (something I've never really understood but he accepts my oddities as well!) and they advertise spam on the menu. It is a popular hang-out & meeting place for those with military connections & there were a couple of families with young children, a few twenty-somethings and a couple of tables of old-timers, all of whom have probably served their country. It is not a tourist kind of place & has no airs about trying to become one, seeming to focus on serving good plain food to a stream of regulars. I enjoyed my breakfast special of two pancakes loaded with berries and whipped cream & the (personal) pot of coffee was appreciated. My husband's breakfast was good but after visiting the bathroom, he got really turned off & immediately questioned the cleanliness & sanitary practices of the kitchen as he said the bathroom was the worst he'd ever seen & would never return to the restaurant because of it. The restaurant is definitely a unique little place, chock full of military memorabilia, from photos and collectables to crests, old newspaper articles, paintings, etc. I liked the feel of the place as it oozed of being one of those local favorite spots with comfort food and companionship where folks probably have their favorite booth or table & know the menu by heart. However, I did not visit the loo and when it comes to food safety, the "cleanliness is godliness" goal should be all important for restaurants, as it does make one question the overall cleanliness standards in the kitchen. The girl who served us was very friendly & fast & the prices were very reasonable. So mixed review: If it was not for the implications of a gross bathroom, I would have given it a higher rating.

“I know now what K rations taste like”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2013

Frank's is a very patriotic place decorated in red, white and blue. It is the only game in town for breakfast. It has a very important history in that the owners were in the military. I thank them for their service to our country but not for their food. The service was fine. We were one of two tables filled in the restaurant so the waitress could hardly go wrong. The coffee was insipid. The eggs tasted like they were powdered (K-rations) and the pancake was so-so. This place never heard of "low fat, low cholesteral" cooking. If your hotel has a continental breakfast eat there. If your hotel only has coffee and no breakfast STAY THERE, drink the coffee and find a McDonald's on the way out of town.
