“Fun and Comfortable as an Old Shoe”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

Surfside Resort is a timeshare condo property available also for rental without timeshare and has been like a comfortable old shoe to our family for the past 15 years. It was probably built in the sixties and had become a typical weather-beaten plain vanilla small town ocean resort with white paint and indoor-outdoor carpet in the outside corridors. So when Worldmark took over and gave it a fancy exterior facelift, put in an elevator and classy lobby, we felt it lost part of it's charm. And, although the rooms are much the same as always, I understand that by 2016 the rooms should be upgraded as well, and probably the rates too! In the meantime, if you are looking for a place to let the kids run around and just relax, don't mind clean but dated bathrooms and kitchens, the FUN is still to be had!

Here's what you will appreciate: A one-bedroom unit with a pull-out sofa (sometimes a 2 bedrm might be available); a fully equipped kitchen; a location even more out of the way than Long Beach; a playground; an indoor/outdoor pool (in a separate building by the playground); DVD and VCR players in the bedroom and living room; excellent storage space - a very roomy kitchen closet for your food and equipment and another closet in the living room; two nice-sized bathrooms; a 9-hole golf course across the parking lot with free rental clubs for a round of golf; a gourmet sandwich shop in the parking lot (lunch hours); 24 hour concierge; DVD's for rent - $3 per day; ocean view all second and third story rooms; first floor rooms face the ocean and may not have a view but are great for children as the rooms open to a grass yard; an elevator; a small gift shop; a quick-stop essentials store across the street; new furniture in the last couple years; bbq grills on the balcony-decks; a short walk across the street and through the dunes to the Pacific Ocean; short driving distance to historic Oysterville, Leadbetter State Park, Jack's Country Store, Long Beach shops, Ilwaco where fresh fish comes in daily, Cape Disappointment, a fantastic bridge that leads to Astoria, Oregon, and more.

Here's what you may not appreciate: Just adequate TV's; WiFi is sometimes spasmodic and weak and costs $15.00 for ten days or $5 per day; limited cell phone coverage (Verizon is most reliable and used by the locals); a small workspace in the kitchen, (but better than camping, for sure!); dated interior finishes; one-sit-down restaurant in the town of Ocean Park, otherwise a great array of eateries in Long Beach, 25 minutes away.

I definitely recommend. My rating is based on my preferences, not what other travelers may prefer :-)

Room Tip: Second (ground level) and third story rooms all face the ocean with a view; first floor opens to sma...

Surfside Inn is managed by WorldMark which owns half of the units. The other half are privately owned and often available to rent. Whole complex completely renovated within past 2 years . . . Interior of rooms scheduled for refurbishment in 2016 but they are quite adequate now. Great indoor pool and gym. Beautiful part of the world's longest beach, viewable from the balconies and just 2 blocks walk over the dunes. Staff is professional and will do anything to make stay great.

I called Scott on the phone to ask what floor we were booked into. He was not friendly and refused to tell me what floor. Said hotels do not divulge what floors people are on when booked on-line. That is NOT true. The Breakers hotel always tell us what floor and room# we have before our arrival.

Also, we were told Leslie, the hotel facilitator, would be giving us a "goodie bag" after check in. We got our "goodie bag" alright....she tried to sneak in a time-share presentation which infuriated us. There should be some kind of warning about this presentation on their website. Because of this, we will not be going back there.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less A/C unit noise

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. I am disappointed to hear your interaction with the resort staff did not meet your expectations, as this is not part of the Count On Me service we take pride in. We know that while on vacation it is imperative that our guests are treated well. I assure you that I will be taking the necessary actions so this is not an issue for future guests. Again, thanks for taking the time to reach out.

We stayed for a week with an Interval trade on a use it or loose it week. We appreciated the warning by others that this was not a World Mark trade like we have had in the past, because our room was definitely not up to World Mark standards. That said, it was adequate for our needs and afforded a great location for exploring the Long Beach peninsula. A friend stayed with us for a couple of nights and said the hide a bed was very comfortable and it was nice to have the extra bathroom for her. Not much of a view on the first floor..... And we were denied our request to move upstairs although the facility was clearly not full. We enjoyed the pool and spa despite having to go outside and downstairs to get there. The little sandwich shop on site has terrific home made soups. The beach is wonderful and we spent a lot of time out there walking and flying our kites. But, we drove to get there.... This facility is not on the beach.

Room Tip: Try to get a World Mark trade

Thank you for this great feedback. The staff at Surfside Inn continually strives to give every guest an outstanding experience, so thank you for recognizing us.

I also wanted to thank you for bring up the point that the Surfside room that you stayed in is not up to Worldmark Standards and explain why, as it is very true. We have 47 total units at Surfside, 22 of these units are not Worldmark Units they are a private Home Owners Association. The Surfside HOA is behind in their renovation schedule. The Board of Directors for the HOA have put a plan together that is in process to get the interior rooms renovated to the Worldmark Standards by 2016. This will allow us to continue to enhance the vacation experience at our resort.

This also suggests why we were not able to relocate you to a 2nd or 3rd floor unit, the unit that was exchanged to Interval that you picked up is owned by a specific owner so it is the only unit that we can utilize. Unless there is another Interval unit that was not picked up. If you would like to reach out to me to discuss this further I would be happy to.

I have to tell you that we utilize the Sandwich Shop across the parking lot called The Great Day Cafe for our staff meetings each month and Steve does an amazing job, we will have to try his soup.

Again thank you for you comments and your patronage and come see us again.

I was somewhat afraid to visit this property after the reviews I had read. These folks are doing their very best to upgrade this property. The outside is very well groomed. The interior was modest but clean and comfortable. The staff were wonderful and very helpful. The concierge Michelle gave us many good to leads of places to see, and restaurant tips. We had a great week-it was clamming season. The ocean is a 5 minute walk across sand dunes-the ocean is wild and wonderful. Nearby restaurants were great! My husband even golfed at the 9 hole golf course-and was warmly rec'd there.--we traded into the property/I.I.-----it was a great week....LG

Room Tip: We had the ground floor---wish we had been up higher to get a better ocean view.

We stayed over New Years in a one bedroom unit for a week at the Surfside Inn in Ocean Park WA trading via Interval International. While this is an older structure, much of it has been updated and is adequate except for the cracked linoleum kitchen floor that needs to be replaced. The kitchen was well equipped including a full stove/oven and dishwasher. The living room has a very nice gas fireplace, and all units have a view of the ocean, about a half mile away, and a decent sized patio with grill. We are use to a king size bed, so the queen-size bed was limiting - I slept on the hide-a-bed in the living room and it actually wasn't bad. The swimming pool and hot tub are very nice but are in a separate building. The staff was very helpful and moved us from a first floor unit, which may have no ocean view, to the third floor. In the winter this is a very quiet place, but we enjoyed long walks on the beach and talking to clammers.

Room Tip: Try to get a third floor room - better view and no one walking above you.

WorldMark/Wyndam bought only 25 of the 47 units about a year ago. We were in a CONDO (NOT WorldMark) unit as a timeshare swap. DEFINITELY would not stay in the condo again. Entering the linoleum looked 30 years old with huge cracks in it; bathrooms are the smallest you will EVER encounter ANYWHERE...like a bad toilet stall where you cannot enter and close the door unless you only have one leg in the bathroom...my 81 year old partner fell into the tub and suffered major bruises...furniture and mattresses were probably replaced a year ago during major renovation but no one has paid any attention to maintenace...the upholstered furniture smelled, someone put something inappropriate on top of dining room chair backs which left them sticky and scarred and will have to be refinished...dishwasher fell apart when we used it...dishes not clean...one bathroom sink stopped up..We left after four of our alloted seven nigths.

Room Tip: We were on second floor and when the tide was coming in could see a tiny bit of surf; unfortunately...
