“Only partially renovated”
Reviewed 19 May 2014

This visit was my first since the hotel has been renovated. There were noticeable improvements (carpet, beds & bedding etc.), but they seemed to stop short of a full renovation. Not only were the bathrooms largely untouched, I was surprised to see a bathroom vent covered with years of dust and grime - surely this could have been cleaned when other renovation work was being done?

The hotel is fine with an extremely convenient location, but still dated with areas that are still in need of renovation, or some basic cleaning.

Room/Bathrooms were left dirty,
when mentioned to front desk they said the facility is under new ownership and check with us later...... what if my experience had been so bad that I would not like to say there again? They did not care about that!

We enjoyed our two night stay at the Governor hotel when visiting Oly for the St. Martin's dragon boat races. The view from the room was excellent, the bed comfy, and the room was clean and nicely appointed. Vintage photos, used as a hotel-wide decor theme, added a sense of fun as well as history of the area. We could not easily find the pool or any fitness area, unless the pool is only outdoors. Breakfast was OK; though if you got up late in the serving span things would run out.

Room Tip: Views on both sides are great; a view of the water is quieter than the view of the city.

I was looking for a comfortable, quiet place to hide away for a couple days and it definitely delivered. Bed was soo comfortable, rooms were clean and staff was friendly. Breakfast was just enough to get me started. Will be goin back. I think it was a great value for the money.

We had a great time at the Governor. We were there for a 40th birthday party. All of the staff we came in contact with on the phone and in person were so nice and friendly. The price of our room was great and they were able to put our room next to our friends' room, which we really appreciated. The beds were so comfortable! The room was clean and had everything we needed. I really appreciated having an iron and ironing board in the room so I could iron my dress for the party. The continental breakfast that included sausage, bacon, eggs and make-your-own waffle was also much appreciated. The location cannot be beat. It's right downtown within walking distance of everything. I only wish we could have stayed longer!

I've read a lot of the reviews on this hotel and they are mixed, mainly due to circumstance beyond your control like partiers or babies next door, or booking problems from 3rd party sites. But we decided to take a chance and try it out as it seemed to be recently remodeled. Here's what you have to keep in mind...It is an old hotel. This means that they can't change that it's an old building at heart. The elevator is old, the doors and ceilings are old, the outside looks like it's from the 1960's and needs to be pressure washed. But everything has been redecorated and painted on the inside and it has trendy new nice furniture, and about the most comfortable hotel bed i've stayed in. We were on the top floor with a view of the capital building and lake, the staff was friendly from the little interaction we had, and breakfast and parking are included. We were able to walk everywhere and had a very pleasant stay! The only advice to the hotel I have is that we were confused about breakfast as it didn't say it was included on the website or our booking information and then we were given breakfast coupons at check-in but not the time that it was served. It's great that it's included but guests need more clarification about it.
