“Average hotel, good convention facilities”
Reviewed 4 June 2012

Stayed for a weekend convention. Good facilities - spacious, cooperative staff. Room was only average - thin walls and ceilings make for a bit noisy stay (ask for a top floor room to eliminate stomping from guest upstairs). My room did not have a microwave or fridge but both were cheerfully supplied upon request. Location is okay, easy access to the interstate but not any restaurants within easy walking distance that I discovered so if you don't have a car suggest taxi into town.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room to reduce noise from upstairs stompers.

We stayed at the Red Lion inn in Olympia, WA for 3 nights while driving the I-5 corridor looking at area universities. The hotel was average, but the staff were nice, and the breakfast buffet was hot and fresh. Breakfast was included in the "Evergreeen State College" rate, and decent.

The Red Lion has everything I need in a hotel...security, cleanliness, friendly employees, a BAR & restaurant...all at a reasonable price & in a beautiful, serene setting. It's a short walk to Capitol Lake, a great area for walking/jogging. The bar is fantastic with attentive but not intrusive staff & a really good happy hour. This was my 4th stay at this Red Lion & honestly would not want to stay anywhere else in Oly.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms have balconies, which is a nice touch.

This place is amazing. The hotel setting is so peaceful. Check in and out was without issues. The rooms were clean. The beds were perfect. The bar was great, even had a happy hour. The breakfast the next day cost $7.95 each, but was worth it. The food was good, and the coffee was hot. I would have loved to stay another night. Will return

We are dog owners. We take our dogs with us always. It has been difficult to find a hotel that was not in the highest price range. The Hilton properties all take dogs, as does the Weston in down town Seattle. These places are in the $250-$450 a night. It's great to find the Red Lion properties, as they are in a mid price range. The have room service, and great place to take your dogs out to do their business. The food is very nice, as are the rooms. A very good deal for all pet owners. If you join the R&R club, free, your pet are no extra charge. We have stayed at red lion properties 3 time this year so far.

Room Tip: Rooms on the east side of the hotel are facing Capital lake with balcony's very good view.

When our secretary told me that my first 4 hotel choices in Olympia were booked, I grimaced and asked her to book me at the Red Lion. I stayed here 10 years ago, and it seemed much nicer back then. This hotel is dated and it shows.

Doesn't every hotel offer you a mini-fridge and microwave, nowadays? Not so, the Red Lion. So the frozen steak burritos I bought at Trader Joe's were a waste. I left my room to go find dinner somewhere. That is, to DRIVE somewhere; as many others have noted, this hotel is not near any stores or restaurants, and sits amid an odd collection of office and government buildings. When I returned to the hotel after dinner, it was hard to not to return to my room, pack up, and find another hotel built within the last 20 years.

For business travelers, I recommend the Ramada on Martin Way, or the Holiday Inn Express in Lacey. The staff is friendly, and I expect that they can't screw up the $8 breakfast buffet tomorrow, but we'll see. My advice? A good hotel only as a last resort.

Room Tip: I stayed in a room in the 270s. The odd-numbered rooms in the south wing face the parking lot; even...

Moved to this hotel after serval ights at the dumpy la Quinta across town. Red Lion is a short drive to lots of restaurants and bars. The hotel restaurant was nice. Efficient, polite service and decent food. I like the Red Lion rooms. The beds are comfortable; the rooms are large and well appointed.
