I have stayed at this Red Lion several times as it is a convenient location during my business trips to the area. Good hotel with a restaurant and lounge, although service is always very slow. There is usually only one server in the restaurant at breakfast so if you do not want the buffet, you will have to wait a while to place your order. Rooms are spacious with some updating in recent years and comfortable bed. Overall, good stay for the price.

The Red Lion Hotel Olympia prides itself on creating the most memorable guest experiences possible. One of the best ways we can improve the quality of our services is to respond to guests’ comments and concerns. We value the time you took to share your remarks with us.

After reading your comments regarding the staffing levels in the restaurant, we have added more staff in the restaurant for breakfast to allow us to give better service.

This is an older hotel which wasn't built as a Red Lion, but it DOES have the large rooms characteristic of Red Lion properties. We had a king bed (very comfy!) plus a sofa hide-a-bed, coffee table, desk and armoire--and still had plenty of space. The bathroom is small, but re-done with the classic Red Lion granite countertop and slate floor.

Our room also had a door to an adjoining room--and when neighbors arrived there at 10:30 pm, we heard every bit of their conversation. It's certainly not the hotel's fault, however, that these rude guests made NO EFFORT to keep their voices down....

Outisde, the building appears well-maintained: recently painted and roofed, with "fresh paint" signs on the iron fence around the pool. And the grounds are wonderful, with "natural" landscaping and plenty of shaded lawn areas. (Great for dog-walking!) Hard to believe the freeway is so close--it really feels like a park.

The only areas which look old and worn are the interior halls. Every single doorjam is beat up, as if for 40+ years, the maids' carts have rammed into them every day. Walls could use a fresh coat of paint too.

We generally love the Red Lion chain (they're ALL pet-friendly!), and this one is terrific. Best selling point is the friendly front desk; we also learned to communicate via "chat" on their website, and got fast info from Erin. We will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Join the Red Lion rewards club--your pet fees will be waived!

This is a very nice hotel for the money. I would describe this hotel as a 3 + star facility. They caters to the business traveler and can be a great value with savings of 50% or more, if you take the time to use one of the online booking services and follow the bid process to book your room.
This is an older hotel and has been updated several times over its life. The facilities are in excellent condition and run by a staff who knows what they are doing. Rooms are medium sized, very clean, nicely decorated and very quiet. I love the pecan wood end tables, office desk, closet and very comfortable beds. An apartment sized fridge and an iron would be a welcome addition.
The Red Lion is located in a park like setting on a bluff overlooking Capital Lake in West Olympia. It's about 10 minutes by car to the State Capital campus, legislative offices and government offices, which make it an ideal business location. During the legistative session, between January and May the hotel accomodations book up quickly and can be difficult on short notice.
There is a nice restaurant and lounge on site, however the restaurant menu is rather limited and too expensive for the average business persons or government employee, who is probably traveling on expenses or per diem. The menu offered one, $30 dollar 12 oz steak dinner, which would probably not fit the bill. The restaurant was empty both nights, however the lounge was packed. The bar menu seems quite popular at around $11 per dish and during happy hour, offered at half price. Breakfast was a buffet ($8) and offered many excellent hot and cold breakfast choices.
This Red Lion is also a conference center with a number of meeting rooms to satisfy both large and small business needs. Catering services are also available.

Room Tip: All the rooms are nicely appointed and non smoking. Ask for a second floor room to be on the same le...

This hotel has been around for a very long time. You can't beat the view but it really is in need of updates. We had a studio room with a king bed and pull out sofa on the first floor overlooking the city. We had our two boys with us and it was really nice being able to have the boys run out on the lawn. The pool was closed for rehab, was sad because the boys were looking forward to swimming and it was one of those rare beautiful hot days we get up there. They play music down by the pool which is nice but had to call them at 2am to ask them to turn it down so it wouldn't' wake me up in my room again. All in all, I would stay again. We got a great deal on priceline!

Don't let the 4 star reviews mislead you. If you are well-traveled you can tell this place is below average. The hotel is old and musty. It is in a wooded location which is very nice, but the upgrades and remodeling are mid-range. For example: Cheap mattresses, outdated bed coverings and carpet, window A/C unit (not central), and an old musty smell. Staff is mildly incompetent.

There is NO breakfast included, which is now quite common in hotels of this range. Staff appears to be barely competent. While I was checking in, a guest came up fuming that they had just put her in a room where there were already guests inside! Both older ladies behind the counter were flustered and unable to "make their computers work right." They apologized for giving her the wrong room key, but really, I've NEVER seen that in all my years of frequent travel. Yikes!
