Let's take it from the top. I am writing this from the actual hotel room. I have another night here but due to the following I am going to go down and check out right after I write this review.
I arrive in the evening after dark and all seems okay. There is a rental car place next door and a lot of construction work around. There is also a lot of road noise from I-5. Upon check in the counter person was on the phone and did not even ackknowledge me for at least 4-5 minutes. Besides that we checked in okay and all was smooth. We went up to our room and walked in the door to find a decent sized room with a fridge and a microwave. The light at the door does not work but this is forgivable since all of the rest did work. The air conditioner is also respectable although it does not leave the fan on once it reaches the desired temperature...it simply turns off until it needs to turn back on. If you like the fan noise to drown out all outside noise then this place is not for you already. I inspect some amenities and find that the microwave smells like a bar, literally, and I would never cook something in it...never. The bathroom looks as though it has not been renovated in at least 15-20 years and has no ventilation...no fan...no nothing. The sink is outside the bathroom and works well. There is also nice furnature here which is probably the reason they switched this to a Quality Inn from an Econolodge...can't have new furnature in an Econolodge. However, one thing not updated is the bed and the pillows. These are by far the flattest pillows I have ever seen and the hardness of the bed is unrivaled by any I have ever slept on. Also, if you have two people staying (queen bed) you better bring a blanket because the one here is not big enough for two people. I only weight 160 lbs and my wife is much smaller than I so it is not due to our size either...if that is what you were thinking. :-) So it is about 12:00 am and I am trying to sleep on this bed when a biker rolls in and runs his motorcyle for a few minutes...waking all who are at this hotel I am sure. There were doors opening and closing until at least 1:00 am...if you are a light sleeper like I am then this will not be good for you. If you can sleep through anything then this is the place for you. This takes me to today. I get up and find a new hotel and need the directions printed since there are about 20 steps on mapquest to write down...long steps. There is a computer room provided downstairs so I go down there and there is no paper in the printer. I ask for some and they say, "how much do you need." I tell her a few sheets and she gives me two. I go in and try to print the directions and someone has already loaded the cache with a t-mobile phone page of some sort...which uses my paper. I then flip it over hoping to find that my printing is next in the queue and the thing jams. I went to the desk and told them that it was jammed to find a look that said, "Not our problem...you had your chance with your two peices of paper." So I came up here, wrote my directions by hand and decided to write this review...which I do for all hotels that I stay in. My wife says that the shower has very high pressure and is good...I want out of here so bad that I am willing to take one later this evening in our nicer hotel...after we go see the capitol. The contenental breakfast is normal...with waffles, cereal, and a lackluster selection of muffins. The coffee is okay..actually pretty good and it was not busy down there as I thought it would be on Labor day weekend...although the parking lot is very full. Oh, there is also a couch in this room. One thing I forgot to mention is when I first layed on the bed I noticed what appears to be dried blood spots on a section of the sheet right under my pillow...it may be something else but I doubt it. Small blood spots but still seems very gross to me.
Bottom line: Stay here if you expect nothing...otherwise, spend an extra $50.00 and stay in the Ameritel Inn here in Olympia or go to Tumwater where there is a Comfort and some other places for not much more than this at all. This is basically an Econolodge (says so on the key cards) that they now feel the need to call Quality Inn.
