The mansion tour is only available on Wednesday and is by reservation only. The mansion itself is probably smaller than other governor mansions, however, it is very inviting. The tour is conducted by women who volunteer for the mansion historical foundation. Several guides take you through the tour as they all seem to specialize in the history of particular rooms. The tour takes about 45 minutes and there is no cost. The public can visit the first two floors, as the third floor is the residence of our state governor. I enjoyed the family room as there are personal pictures of the governor, her husband and daughters. The formal dining room has a beautiful painted canvas wall.
It is hard to believe that I have lived in Olympia for over forty years and this is the first time I have gone into the inside of the mansion! Definitely a good tour.
