Beautiful rooms in a beautiful house in a beautiful setting. Linda and Don are personable, attentive, and kind hosts. We immediately felt right at home. Their attention to detail made our stay as peaceful, pleasant, and enjoyable as could be. The breakfasts were wonderful. Knowing we had never kayaked on salt water, Don volunteered to take us a guided kayak tour of the area. It just doesn't get any better.

Room Tip: All three rooms are lovely. The differences are well described on the website.

They owners were such a delight as were the breakfasts they cooked up every morning. It was unusually warm, mid 90's, and they were very accomodating with fans to cool us down. It was perfect!!!! I would reccomend them in any weather. It's a romantic hide-a-way!

Room Tip: No pool but it's on the water! I loved the blue room!

We were the very first paying guests at The Inn at Mallard Cove some years back. We were looking for somewhere pleasant to stay in Olympia. The photos on their website attracted our interest. It sounded quiet & beautiful. It was, but it was much more than that. Over the years, we have returned several times because it's simply the best place to stay in Olympia (OK, we haven't stayed everywhere, but we just cannot imagine a nicer place to stay). The breakfasts are FRESH & delicious--exquisite. The decor is beautiful, like an English country home. The location is ideal--the view, THE VIEW! But perhaps best of all is the kayaking on Puget Sound. We had never kayaked until Don showed us how and put us at ease. This last visit we went out late in the afternoon with Don and came back at sunset. Wow! Our only regret is that we can't visit more often :(

PS In full disclosure, we now think of Don & Linda as friends, but we have not been offered any payment or gift for writing this review. It's just a wonderful place, run by lovely people, so we have nothing but nice things to say.

Room Tip: We like the largest room, but all are lovely. Superbly decorated.

We stayed 5 nights at Mallard Cove while visiting relatives in Olympia/Tacoma. This is the single most outstanding B&B or inn of any sort that we have ever stayed in (disclaimer: we generally stay in hotels). Linda and Don Malatesta invested years of time and lots of $$ before opening this inn and it shows. Everything is fantastically well done down to the details and of course the natural setting in which it is placed, right on a cove of Puget Sound, make it incredible. The Malatestas themselves are very gracious, knowledgeable about the local environment, good cooks, gardeners, meticulous about everything in their house from the furniture to food to cleanliness. There are only 3 rooms and any one of the three would be an excellent choice. This is an excellent spot to just sit and relax or to enjoy the natural phenomena of the region or…just about anything else. Unreservedly recommended.

What a find! My wife and I have stayed at B&B's and high end hotels all over the world from Monterey to Thailand and this was the most peaceful, romantic, and warmest place ever. The grounds and Inn were beautiful and the atmosphere peaceful and serene. An excellent place to regroup your souls and prepare for more battles in the real world once you get the courage to leave. Warning, there will be great resistance. The biggest gem, however, are the Innkeepers extraordinaire, Don and Linda, who make you feel like friends from the immediate start. From Don's engaging conversations and sage advice to kayaking and local wildlife to Linda's Napa Valley Style culinary skills, it is a place that leaves a mark in your heart. We booked a return trip immediately for our anniversary before departing. We plan to be a staunch members of the repeat offenders club. We can't wait.

My husband and I spent two nights at the Inn last weekend and really enjoyed the location, the room, the food and the delightful atmosphere Don & Linda have created.

We stayed in the Mallard Room which has a lovely balcony overlooking the garden and Puget Sound and a comfy sitting area with fireplace (which we didn't use given the time of year). The gardens are lovely - wisteria over our balcony, colorful flowers lining the garden steps and patio - clearly a great deal of thought and work have gone into making this informal beauty.

If you take a walk down to the beach (for which you need sturdy soles as the barnacle- and mussel-covered shingles are uneven and sharp), walk to your left and you'll be rewarded with a lovely view of Mount Rainier. Heron and harbor seals - plus many gulls - keep you company as it's a very quiet place.

Breakfasts were delicious, and I loved the coffee in our room half an hour prior to breakfast. I also loved the cookies and hot water pot to make tea or cocoa in the evenings.

The free WiFi is limited (250 MB per day) so it's fine for checking e-mail but don't expect to watch movies via Netflix.

We normally travel with our kids, but this was a "just us" weekend. We used to stay in B&B's a lot in our pre-parent days, but most (very wisely) don't accept kids. This was a lovely reintroduction to the best a B&B can offer.

Looking for an affordable, elegant, cozy, pampered, waterfront getaway?
If so, I recommend you give this B & B your strongest consideration! I recently spent two luxurious, effortless days at the Inn at Mallard Cove. Don & Linda were warm, welcoming and conveyed (without hovering over me) the desire to do whatever necessary to make my stay everything I hoped it would be. Don took me on a sunrise sea kayak adventure to share with me the Harbor Seals, many birds and thrilling beauty of the Nisqually Delta. Linda's breakfasts were divine. Try her delicious, heart healthy Belgium waffles and then splurge on a slice or three of their homemade bacon (mm-mm-mm). My room was exceedingly clean with thoughtful touches such as handmade lavender soaps. The bed was super comfortable with lush yet livable furnishings. I watched the sunset over the puget sound from the privacy of my bedroom balcony and felt like I was floating on a cloud...

Room Tip: All rooms overlook the water. I stayed in the Olympic room. It is done in French blue and crisp whi...
