“Great service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

Batdorf and Bronson is a straightforward independent coffee shop. They sell their blends in and around Oly, to different restaurants and coffee stands. Their drip coffee is TOP NOTCH. For my taste, their espresso runs a little smooth, lacking the bite of Starbucks. But no worries, just add an extra shot to any order. Service is TOP NOTCH. Jon, who works the morning shift, is meticulous in his care while preparing the drinks. Others are just as conscientious. Every time I walk in, I feel like I am the sole focus of their efforts. Ask for the Whirling Dervish drip coffee, you will have a productive day.

“Olympia's premier coffee roaster”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 April 2014

The first coffee roaster in Olympia, and it soon gained a national reputation. In one of the first articles in the New York Times about the nascent premium coffee roasting industry, the writer kept badgering the head of the national trade association to tell him which of his many members' roasts was his personal favorite. The industry rep obviously didn't want to play favorites with his membership, but eventually admitted that he currently had several pounds of Batdorf & Bronson's in his freezer at home.

In the early years, in their previous storefront on Capitol Way, the roasting machine was out in the public dining area. The counter staff were also responsible for monitoring the roasting. You could tell when things were getting too busy without even going inside. Just driving into downtown, you would pass through this bank of blueish smoke enveloping the block, as another batch was over-roasted. They've since gotten those quality-control bugs ironed out.

They now have two storefronts, and a tasting room in their roasting facility. The roasting facility and one of the storefronts are both near the Farmers Market, at the northern terminus of Capitol Way. My favorite is the other storefront on Capitol Way in the heart of downtown. It's well-lit, with many comfy chairs and couches, a fireplace, reliable wi-fi, a nice assortment of pastries, and some mighty fine java. The staff are always pleasant, and the line is usually tolerable. I find it the perfect place to spend a Sunday morning reading the paper or surfing the web, getting ready to face the day.

“Great coffee - visit the tasting room”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 March 2014

There are several locations of B&B as it is known locally around Olympia and the coffee is good. The tasting room is fun to visit with knowledgable staff and tasting options. They do a lot of green in their facilities, and it is fun to learn more about it. They give free used coffee grounds for local gardeners.

“Busy Place!”

This is one busy coffee shop. Located just a few doors down from a Starbucks. Highly recommend it here, my latte was delicious and the leather chairs are super comfy! Will be back soon!

“Lovely coffee house”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 March 2014

I rated this coffee house excellent even though all we had was a couple cups of drip coffee so hard to evaluate. However, those cups were delicious and the place itself is spacious, well-lighted, and pretty. Coffee to drink there is served in real cups with a free refill.
