“Pleasant stay, but some things were off”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

My husband and I had a pleasant stay at The Resort at Port Ludlow this past weekend. We were on the golf package, which included 18 holes at the Port Ludlow golf course, lunch or breakfast at the golf course cafe, and one night's accommodations. We thought the rate was quite reasonable and really enjoyed the golf course.

Our stay at The Resort was also quite pleasant, but there were some areas that we noticed needed improvement. The rooms are very basic and some elements (e.g. bathroom fixtures, shower) are in need of a makeover. We felt the rate we paid was reasonable given the golf, but if we paid that rate for the room alone I would not have been as satisfied.

We also dined in the Fireside restaurant. I made a reservation on Open Table ahead of time and it was a good thing I did -- they had a private event and a larger party that evening, so they were turning away people who did not have reservations. And there aren't very many other dining options in the area. We found the food to be very good and they had a comprehensive wine list. The meal took about two hours and I'm not sure if that's because the staff was overwhelmed with the number of guests in the restaurant, or because our server wanted to pace our meal. Either way, we weren't in a rush and had a nice dinner.

We ended up checking out early and were quite surprised to receive a voicemail from The Resort's front desk on our way home. Cell service is spotty at the resort and we assume the front desk staff tried calling us before we left, but in the voicemail the front desk rep rather brusquely told us that late checkout could not be accommodated and we better vacate our room by 1pm at the latest unless we wanted to pay for another night. We did not request late checkout and were a little turned off by the message. It was an odd note to end a nice stay on.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay given the golf package, but I'm not sure if we'd return.

Thank you for this very thorough review. We are delighted that you were able to enjoy the golf package and experience the dining room. We very much appreciate your candid remarks about the guest room issues and the final impression that was left . This helps us improve our product and our service/approach and we are very sorry that there were flaws in the execution of both. We do hope that you will recall the positive impressions and give us another chance when you are considering travel to our area. In the meantime, safe journeys.

What a lovely surprise! We did not know what to expect and were pleased to find a lovely upscale establishment that takes dogs! The rooms have Jacuzzi tubs and fireplaces - even in the dog room. Our Sunny was greeted with dog treats and given her own portable bowl. Her name was put on the Board as one of their VIP guests. Lovely areas to walk directly from the hotel. We will come back.

Room Tip: They have multiple pet rooms, but be sure to call first and reserve.

Thank you for this lovely review! We are delighted that you "discovered" us and that we were able to accommodate you and Sunny. Our pet guests often bring their families to visit - and then they send "signals" to return - when you see Sunny looking around for the peanut butter/bacon dog biscuits that our culinary team hand-crafts, you'll know it is time to return. Thanks for pointing out the need to check on availability as we do have a number of pet rooms - though with our reputation among the pet travelers, these are often committed early. Thanks again for this kind review - we appreciate that you made the time to share your impressions.

My wife and I were planning two days of golf on the Olympic Peninsula, one at Port Ludlow, when a Port Ludlow email came in advertising a stay there. We are so glad we chose this rather than the roadside motel on 101 we had targeted. The setting is beautiful. Our room looked out at the marina full of boats with the snow-capped Olympics in the background. All staff members were friendly and helpful from the front desk to the Fireside restaurant. The food was excellent, the jet tub in the room excellent for relieving tired golf muscles and the bed was very comfortable for sleeping. And then we hit the links for a great round of Port Ludlow golf, something we try to do once or twice yearly. What a beautiful course, in excellent condition with highly varied holes.

Room Tip: Our room came with a king bed and jet tub, both very relaxing.

Thank you for choosing our property for your recent golf outing. We are delighted that our marketing efforts resulted in your decision - and that you had such an enjoyable visit. Thanks also for making the connection of sore muscles and our jetted tubs! That is quite an image and one that we will ponder going forward. The hand-crafted bath salts are soothing - and after a day on the course, most of us long for such relaxation. Perhaps we can entice you to join us more than once or twice a year! We appreciate that you made the time to share your impressions - and with such detail! Safe journeys and hit 'em straight!

The Resort at Port Ludlow is in a beautiful location on the Puget Sound and has found the ability to attract the best in hospitality. The Fireside restaurant only serves the freshest and best; fish out of Neah Bay just three hours prior to dinner! The menu serves up gourmet dinners only according to the very best of ingredients available that day, and the bar and restaurant staff are friendly and very knowledgeable making the end of the day relaxing and enjoyable. The Front Desk is also exceptional in assisting with plans in the area and will go out to their way to find just the right solution to any problem. Rooms are clean and comfortable with amenities to suit all needs. Definitely a retreat to be tried and enjoyed if in the area.

Such a beautiful place to spend time with your favorite person. A walk on the beach, an afternoon cocktail, a fabulous dinner & a room with a view AND fireplace. So romantic - we have a relaxing time every time we visit.

Room Tip: Get a room with an outdoor deck to enjoy the view even more. Pets are welcome too!

The Resort at Port Ludlow is an excellent base for exploring out and around the islands and peninsulas in Puget Sound. The hotel has great views of the marina and harbor as well as nice grounds. We received a $50 a day food voucher in the Fireside restaurant that was well suited for a great breakfast. We didn't feel the dinner meal was all that great, but the restaurant is warm and welcoming with fine views of the harbor and has a nice porch outside (if it's not raining or warm enough). The queen bay suite option is three rooms, bedroom, bathroom, and living area with a wet bar; with Keurig coffee and a fridge. Best of all was the huge balcony looking out on the hotel property in back ang the totem pole at the waters edge. The staff is excellent, helpful and friendly. This hotel is also extremely pet friendly as we had our JRT along with us, he even got a well coming dog basket (Wallie loved the homemade biscuits!). We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Queen bay suite.

Echo the comments of other travelers: warm, welcoming reception staff. clean and tidy room; very comfortable. incredible location and view, view, view! Fireside restaurant superb - kudos to chefs! Seems like in the middle of nowhere, but really only 20 minutes from Port Townsend, or Paulsbo. Our first stay in this area, and local knowledge shared by reception staff made exploring and experiences delightful. We would definitely stay here again! M&L Pedersen / Vancouver Canada.

Room Tip: if #301 is available, you will have windows on 3 sides and 2 balconies to enjoy scenery, eagles pass...
