“Victorian charm”
Reviewed 31 January 2013

A beautiful Victorian right in the center of downtown Port Townsend. Easy location for exploring downtown on foot. Each room is unique, some with full bath, some with bathroom down the hall. Beds are comfortable and bathrooms have been updated. The hotel is old but well cared for. A charming 3-story building with lots of history. Stayed here for a month in April, 2010. Service can be hit or miss, depending on who happens to be working when you arrive. Rates will obviously be better during winter months, except at Christmas.

Just go for the experience. Imagine you are stepping back to a simpler time, when life moved at a slower pace. Relax.

The hotel was very nice, Victorian style room. The rooms had free Internet but was a little slow. The room had a coffee, a microwave and refrigerator. The shower was great with heads from above and sides. The area was very close to the water. The downtown closed earlier so not a lot going on.

Very nice accommodations. Paid $40 over the advertised price for this room, but since there was a festival going on, was okay with it. We were warmly greeted and shown where good restaurants were. Got a quick self-guided tour of the hotel and saw the different rooms that were not occupied yet.
We are staying for 2 nights. Last night was our first night. I found a top of a food wrapper on the couch and a beer bottle cap on the floor when we first got to the room. I probably wouldn't have mentioned it, but today, we came back to our room after it had been "cleaned". As far as I can tell, they replaced our bath towels, took the tip money, and left an empty candy wrapper in its place. Didn't even make the bed. I am not very happy to pay more for a room and get less service.
Housekeeping could stand improvement. The shower and bath were good. The bed was firm, but comfortable. So, 2/3rds of our stay was excellent.

We parked our car, walked half a block and stopped when we read "Palace Hotel". My first thought was it would be too expensive for this trip's budget; but hey-it's January so you never know until you ask. We were surprised at how totally reasonable the rates were. We peeked in every room and made our choice- the Rose room. The hotel is a romantic escape in a sweetly romantic town!

Room Tip: The Rose room has a separate bath featuring a deep jacuzzi tub and a beautiful crystal chandelier am...

We had a wonderful stay in the beautiful Palace Hotel which is filled with period character and charm, with enough modern touches to make it very comfortable. The welcome was warm, the rooms were clean, the bed comfortable (as my epic 15 hours of sleep will testify!). Brilliantly located and with parking behind the building the Palace was an absolutely fantastic find. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone taking a short break in Port Townsend.

We took visiting friends from Montana to spend 2 days with us exploring Port Townsend. We needed a pet-friendly hotel, and the Palace fit the bill. When we checked in, we were given a "doggie bag" with bowls, towel, and blanket for our dogs. Our room was on the second floor, with big windows, a frig, microwave, coffeemaker, and bathroom with vintage tub. Our friends' room was alittle different, with a shower with multiple spray heads, which they liked . There is a big common area, with a giant Christmas tree and sofas and chairs. We settled in, met some fellow guests, and had a wonderful happy hour. Our concierge was very friendly and attentive, bringing us extra glasses, wine opener, etc. He also gave us some great ideas on what to see,and where to eat.
The building is vintage seaport, and was at one time a "rooming house". Each room is named for a different lady in residence. We saw several of the other rooms that were open, and each is uniquely different and charming.
The price (mid week) was a bargain for the accommodations and service. We will definitely be back. The location is perfect, in the middle of the main downtown waterfront street shops, and next to the stairs leading to the upper business district. We found everyone to be helpful, friendly, and professional. This is a great, casual, place to spend a few days exploring. One thing to know, is that there is no elevator.

This hotel is wonderful. History, charm, character, and amazing service. It brought back the christmas spirit. What a beautiful building and area. It feels like home. Some folks leave their doors open. Others join in the parlor by the Christmas tree to talk. Traveling to Port Townsend and staying at the Palace may become a Christmas tradition for us. It was memorable!!!!
