Thornton House Bed and Breakfast

My wife and I visited Thornton House this past weekend, and we could not have found our experience more delightful. Barbara and Charlie made us feel comfortable the moment we crossed the threshold of their beautifully restored historical home. They are the most gracious hosts, and we felt an immediate friendship. This property is clean and quiet with plenty of room for relaxing. The breakfasts were delicious and the conversation was great. Barbara has created a beautiful garden and patio area where we relaxed with a glass of wine on the afternoon of our arrival. Thornton House is conveniently located very close to downtown Port Townsend. We will certainly be back to visit again. We have done a fair amount of traveling, and Thornton House is on our A-List. We highly recommend this property to our friends given our firsthand experience.

Having had many opportunities to stay in Port Townsend, we have just had the good fortune to stumble upon a gem.

Thornton House is located on a quiet residential street in Uptown, within walking distance to the marina, museums, restaurants, and has close proximity to Fort Warden, which has beach access and the light house at Point Wilson.

Accommodation includes just two guest bedrooms upstairs, and the Carriage House. All are good options. The ample common areas provide options for conversation and retreat.

A real differentiator is how authentically the architectural character has been restored, providing all the charm of the late 1800’s era with a refreshing interpretation on Victorian home interiors. The outcome is elegant and comfortable.

From gourmet coffee and breakfast, to the cheese and wine in the late afternoon, we were very well taken care of.

Also, Barbara and Charlie’s knowledge of the local history provided us with insights into life both past and present that was engaging.

We highly recommend this B&B and have already scheduled our next stay!

We are hesitant to let the word out on what a great spot this is for fear we'll never get a reservation again.Barbara and Charlie have created a special getaway in their lovely B&B.The rooms, special touches and great food made for a wonderful weekend in charming PT.Our hosts were so welcoming-we really felt more like family than guests. They had great suggestions on things to do and see and places to eat, but being at their beautifully restored home was a delight in itself. We loved the wine and hors d' hourves out in the garden, late night brownies, coffee and tea outside our door in the morning and the 4 star breakfast. We will be back!

I called only a day before we arrived, trying to find a good place to take the little lady for the weekend. The normal rooms were all booked I was told... however... the carriage House, newly restored, and "just about finished" might do, if we were willing. When we arrived the carriage house was perfect.

Charlie and Barbara were fantastic hosts. We arrived later in the evening, and they greeted us warmly, and had saved some of the 4 p.m. wine and cheese goodies for us.

They took the time to find out what we were interested in doing that evening in Port Townsend, and helped us plan our time there (complete with restaurant recommendations, and walking directions).

We stayed in the newly restored carriage house behind the main house. It offered a great amount of privacy, but is still only feet away from the entrance of the main house, where Charlie and Barbara were waiting to help you out with advice, or just provide more delicious brownies. The carriage house was very cute, well appointed, and the bathroom with rain shower was delightful.

There is also an entire lot next to the house that is Barbara's labor of love: a full garden. Looks really great.

Finally, breakfast in the morning was delicious. Coffee and tea were outside our door at 7:30, and breakfast was at 9. Fruit, waffles, muffins, juice, great company.

Thanks Charlie and Barbara for a great stay, we will definitely be back!
