Individuals or couples have different priorities. Do you want a weekend's change of pace with convenient access to amenities, theaters, restaurants? Or do you want to get further off the beaten track and away from the hustle & bustle so you can turn off your cell phone and read (or write) without interruption? The Valley View may be described as "rustic", simply because it's relatively basic. You have everything you need in the small cabins, and you can bring your dog if you wish. The cabins have a pleasant history, and you can discuss that with the resident managers. I found it a welcomed getaway, and returned again to see that it remained so. Cabins are about $70 a night, and Port Townsend isn't far away if you prefer a restaurant dinner to whatever you may cook yourself. The "exposed" hot water heater described by a previous reviewer is a modern European type by which hot water is heated in close proximity to a sink or shower so it remains hot instead of traveling through cold pipes. You need not wait for the water to warm up. I infer that reviewer's priorities are different than mine, as are some of the observations. I didn't perceive the door as flimsy nor did I regard the rural environment as threatening. I travel occasionally on business, and I have several expectations for logding, but I appreciated this place because it is a getaway, an opportunity to discuss, to relax. Explore without presupposition. Don't expect entertainment; be your own entertainment! They're nicely maintained cabins on a highway, not luxury suites at the Waldorf-Astoria! If you want quality time to spend with your wife and/or children, this is a good choice. Discuss your needs or preferences when you call for a reservation or directions, and enjoy your time there.

Room Tip: Cabins are arranged in a row, so those further from the road will probably be quieter. You may want to bring food; there are stoves and microwaves in the cabins, as well has showers. The television received only a limited selection of channels.

This is a very nice place to stay. The cabins are a bit rustic with older solid wooden doors. I work security and was at ease in this environment. There was no drug traffic, or prostitutes. No drunks staggering around outside. This is a great place to bring your kids! Just imagine, bringing your kids to a small farm where the chickens roam free and goats nibble the grass. I loved it.
The staff was new with an on site manager who used to work in an inner city motel where you did not sleep until all the rooms were rented out and trouble makers were kicked out. What a change for the new managers!
The refund policy is simple, as should be expected with a small business. Call two days in advance to cancel your stay and you don't even pay a service charge. How simple and sttraight forward can you get?
The view here is utterly fantastic- the only thing that could have made it better was no cars on that busy highway.
I have only one negative or my rating would be higher. No internet access and no TV shows. I would have stayed longer but I need internet access and I like to watch the news.

We made a reservation based on the quaint website and photos of the little cabins. Little did we know that our cabin did not have curtains like the photos showed. Also, the door was thin as paper and no doubt could be easily kicked in by an intruder. The hot water heater was exposed and visible near the kitchen stove. No TV, no internet, they just offered us some cheesy VHS tapes to watch. This place was a dump and we decided to ask for our money back. When we did, they said "only if they rent the cabin that night". We drove back by the next morning and saw that our cabin had been rented. We took a photo as proof then called the motel office. (Not sure why someone would want to rent a dumpy cabin without curtains....must've been desperate.) We told them we were parked outside and had photographed the cars parked outside our cabin and told them we want our refund. We received a return call stating our refund had been processed. We also received an email from the owner stating his office manager had stayed up late just to rent our cabin....trying to make us feel guilty or something. I doubted the office manager stayed up late because he lives there and he probably answers the bell when late comers stop by. The Valley View Motel is falsely advertised as far as we are concerned. Avoid it like the plague.
