We've stayed in Port Townsend a bunch and usually do the Bishop & Swan, which is great. We happened to try a last minute booking and it turned out there was a cancellation/opening here (4th of July weekend). It was excellent.

The location is perfect. It's about a 5-10 minute walk into town, but leisurely and with a nice view. It's just the right amount to be a tiny bit of exercise (perfect for after-meal). We stayed in the garden suite and it was clean, comfortable, with a tiny kitchenette. The main house looked great. The host was friendly, gracious. We enjoyed talking to her. The art and the view out back were also awesome.

We will definitely be staying here on our next visit to PT.

Room Tip: The garden suite was great and worked well for 2.

We stayed in the larger of the two suites for 3 nights. There aren't a lot of choices in Port Townsend for families, but this worked out great for us. Our kids are older (10 and 13 at the time); the owner did tell us the property wasn't welI-suited for younger kids because of the balcony. I really wanted something with a view and this one was fantastic.

The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of room for a family of four. We were also able to take our small dog, with the caveat that she couldn't be there by herself. There was a decent-sized kitchen with a table, along with a separate sitting room. Only downside was that we had to buy our own paper towels and dishwashing soap because there was none on arrival and the owner was out at the time we discovered this.

Don't expect 5-star luxury but everything was very clean and the location was not too far from town. We drove to downtown because of the hill but if you want some exercise, you could walk. Although the owner lives downstairs, she was not intrusive. We enjoyed our stay and would return.

We stayed in the garden room for two nights. The room was very comfortable, clean and nicely decorated. There is a small kitchenette in the room, as well. So, you get almost everything you need at a relatively lower price. The deck and the garden has a gorgeous view. The house is filled with decorative sculpture and is nicely located so, you can walk to almost everywhere. Our host, Margaret, was also very kind. All in all, if Takaki House is available, do not look for any other place.

We stayed two nights in the studio suite on a recent cycling trip. It is a great location for exploring Port Townsend and the deck offers a spectacular view of the harbour. The suite was clean and comfortable. I read one review and was worried about the town hall bells ringing because I am a light sleeper but this definitely wasn't an issue. We paid significantly less in Coupeville for a more spacious, elegant suite including a hearty breakfast, but that may just be the difference in the accommodation market of two different places. For Takaki's price without breakfast, we found it adequate but not particularly noteworthy.

If the thought of a B&B makes your skin crawl, Takaki House is the antidote. Our host, Margaret, was accessible, but not doting...the space was elegant, art filled and cozy...not a doily in sight. The walk to downtown took seven minutes. Everything we needed was provided in this small but well designed guest house. The two decks provided panoramic views of the harbor and we were surrounded by Margaret's sculpture, both sophisticated and whimsical. We feel fortunate that we were able to spend three days at the Garden Room at Takaki House and will definitely return!

What I was looking for when I booked Takaki House was a convenient place to stay after our full day boat trip to the San Juan islands. What I should have done was to plan to spend more time at this lovely house. We stayed in the Garden Room which was beautifully decorated, amply stocked and incredibly comfortable. We also had access to the back deck with a great view of the Sound, and the garden patio. What a delight to wonder through all the gardens and admire Margaret's marvelous works of art. Next time we will rent the suite and stay much longer. Margaret Takaki was a perfect host and directed us to Port Townsend attractions and eateries. Don't miss this gem in Port Townsend.

We have stayed at this property both in the studio and the two bedroom main house four times now. Each time was an absolutly relaxing treat. The property inside and out is always spotless and well maintained. The views from the patio are unobstructed Puget Sound, fruit trees and Art pieces strategically placed throughout meticulously maintained gardens. Margaret is the owner and operator of Takaki House and is one of the most interesting, artistic, no nonsense people you will ever meet. We will continue coming back to Takaki House and visiting Margaret.....oh and "Joe" the dog for many years to come.
