“Beautiful park, affordable, TERRIBLE sales director”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2014

I reserved the USO Hall for our wedding reception, and a space for our outdoor ceremony. The sales director, Maureen, was a nightmare to deal with. We looked into reserving a space at Fort Worden for our wedding a few months ago, and Maureen informed us that we HAD TO use Fort Wordens catering service and were not allowed to bring in our own food or beverages. So, since we're on a budget I started searching for other venues. Then Maureen called us back and asked why I hadn't contacted her again. I told her that it was because catering wasn't in our budget and she insisted that she never said that we had to use their catering service. We hadn't found any other venues that we loved in our budget, so we decided to just go ahead with Fort Worden. We went and checked out the Chapel and the USO Hall and they are both beautiful! They are also very affordable! I am very pleased that tables and chairs are provided at no extra cost (except for outdoor venues, then you have to pay $2 per chair). We decided on a date, and called Maureen the next week and reserved our spaces. One hour later my Fiancees Mother informed us that the date that we had chosen is also the first day of the camp for special needs children that she has been running for the last 20 years. She said that if we don't choose another date then she and my Fiancees family wouldn't be able to attend! I called Maureen back immediately and left her a message (she NEVER picks up her phone) telling her that there is a problem with that date. I called her back ONE HOUR after we made the reservations. At 1pm. She didn't get back to me until 9 next morning and left me a message stating that she had not run our credit card yet and asked for a list of other dates so that she could find one that would work for us. So I did. I called her back 2 hours after she left me that message. Maureen did not get back to me until 6pm the next day. She sounded very annoyed. "What is the problem? No. I already ran the card. You have been booked for that date. I have the list of other dates, but if I get into that...it just gets messy. You're lucky to have a day booked at all. You should just stick with what you have". Wow. She didn't even want to TRY and check to see if there was another date available? So, the park is gorgeous and very affordable. But DO NOT let Maureen handle your reservation!

When thirty of our "closest" family members wanted to meet in Port Townsend, we reserved one of the houses on Officer's Row to be the meeting place. It is definitely NOT a cushy hotel, and it is NOT cheap. But as a temporary home that easily housed ten of us (and could have slept more) and offered a large fuly equipped kitchen and a formerly gracious dining room with a table that seated more than half of us, this was a great deal. I spoke with the management because the WiFi is very poor (too weak for the numbers) and learned they are in the process of restoring the officers' houses. I hope they do - the homes are gracious, with elegant built ins shabbily painted over. But we found the beds comfortable. Breakfast was good but the serving area way too small for the numbers that invaded Ft. Worden that weekend.

Room Tip: This is not a hotel, more like an old fashioned hostel. But some day it will be a lovely hotel.

At $130 a night for a room with a shared bathroom, better valued accommodation can be found on any Skid Row. No cups in the rooms. No paper towels in the shares bathroom so you have to bring your allotted towel with you every time you visit the loo. Place is dingy. Great views obliterated by filthy windows. Pillow is about one inch thick. Unbelievable that this place stays in business. Maybe if you wanted to do upgraded camping with friends and pay thru the nose for it. STAY AWAY. someone is making a fortune on this "historic" property because maintenance has been deferred since it was built.

There were 4 couples that rented the house for an overnight stay as we were going to The Strange Brew Festival in Pt Townsend on the weekend. This is a State owned and State run officers rental home in the historic Fort Worden State Park. We stayed in a 2 story 5 bedroom 3 bath house the dinning room sat 10 comfortably and it had a large living room, the kitchen was large and had a table for 4 the bedrooms all had queen beds and were large. REMEMBER this is a state owned house and there is no decor no extra pillows on the beds the colors are beige and more beige the floors are a little uneven and some kind of commercial old rug is on the main floor and the heat is radiators but we were very warm. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cookware our microwave was on the blitz there were 2 sets of everything to host a large crowd. The continental breakfast could get you by if you eat late and have an early lunch. We enjoyed no TV we enjoyed the size of the rooms and the house and being in the park was great. Now that we have stayed there we would be more prepared for our stay next time and for a large group we would all stay again it's a pretty good bargain for this size of a house and the location.

Room Tip: There are 4 bedrooms and 2 full hall bathrooms upstairs and 1 bedroom and a bathroom with a toilet a...

We stayed in one of the Officer's Row houses in the park, built in 1904. These are not luxury homes, but they were when this was an active military installation. The park is attempting to repair the wear & tear on these houses (and other park structures), but - by all appearances - are having a tough time keeping up.

That said, we stay here every year as a family retreat because of the roomy house, no TV and the quiet after all of the park's day-use people go home. Not just quiet - PEACEFUL!

The house is fully furnished - bedding, towels, all kitchen utensils, cookware, dishes & glasses. Bring your food, load the refrigerator and cook away. The park does give you a punch card for continental breakfast at The Commons but, really and truly, don't bother. Trust me, the breakfast offered by the concessionaire is an absolute joke - even the park staff is tired of the complaints.
From here, you can explore the old bunkers on Artillery Hill, visit the museums on site, hang out on a quiet beach or a beach with breakers (either side of Point Wilson), kite flying on the old Parade Ground, see a concert, etc. Or just drive 7 minutes into Port Townsend to explore the shops & businesses there. Have ice cream at Elevated Ice Cream Company on Water Street - will take a while to decide on a flavor!

We rented the Madrona Vista barrack for a family reunion. The place is spacious, bright and airy with all the large windows able to open. It is of course old, but the necessary updates have been made in the fully stocked kitchen and bathrooms, and the private bedrooms with queen size beds are perfectly comfy. We BBQ'd on the large deck and easily sat 45 in the dining room for meals. The upstairs living room has couches and chairs perfect for relaxing conversation and noisy games. Every morning they brought us a tub full of fresh towels and toilet paper and took away our used towels and big garbage. Fort Worden with Madrona Vista is perfect for a large group with diverse interests. We had a wonderful time.

Room Tip: The 5 upstairs bedrooms are carpeted with nice views.

Dude, who decided this was a 'hotel'? This is Officer's Row, like a Summer house you rent. You don't walk down the hall to get ice or look for the pool! It's a State Park, how did it rank as a multi-unit hotel? BTW Been staying there since the 70s, before they were remodeled, and afterwards. You bring friends and family, but it is NOT a hotel anymore than my kitchen is a cafe!

Room Tip: There is no ROOM people! It's a house! Is my house a hotel? Duh!
