“Little slice of Heaven”
Reviewed 27 September 2013

A well needed break was in order and we found the perfect place to take it. We brought our daughter who has been studying abroad and all three of us left feeling relaxed and very satisfied.
Having a coffee or wine in front of the fire in the comfy and fascinating (there is so much to look at) family room, either starts or ends your day in a perfect way. The rooms are beautiful, very clean and quaint. I wanted to sleep with the windows open so I could hear the waves of the ocean soothing into shore. We sat outside one evening, wrapped in blankets, drinking wine, on a big porch swing, watching the sun set over the stunning view. The gardens are beautiful, the breakfasts delicious, the hosts warm and friendly. This was our second time here, and we are definitely coming back! Thanks Jim & Gail for a terrific stay!

I took my wife on a "date night" to the Commanders Beach House B&B and found it incredibly superb. The setting along the beach and waters of the bay near Port Townsend, WA was refreshing and romantic. We stayed in the "Lighthouse Suite" and watched Point Wilson's light flash throughout the evening. The room was well attended, comfortable and the facilities clean and relaxing. Strongly recommended ... you'll not be disappointed!

Room Tip: Our "lighthouse suite" gave us a view of the bay, lapping waters and the lighthouse (and i...

Gail and Jim are the quintessential good hosts; warm and friendly, they make you feel immediately welcome - the house is comfortable and beautifully situated on the shore. There's a wide porch facing the water, a gorgeous garden full of stunning flowers, a living room that invites you to sit and read or visit, and a breakfast that starts the day perfectly. Comfortable bed, new shower in the very clean bathroom, and a short walk into town, all combine to give this lodging high marks. Our stay was in the Island View room, with its own private bath down the hall - having windows on two sides of the room affords wonderful views of the water and islands, plus allows good ventilation on warmer days. This is one of those lovely places that feels like you are visiting (or rather, being taken care of by) good friends - we have stayed here several times, and it is always a delight.

We spent three nights here whilst on vacation in Port Townsend. Sleeping with the window open at night was fantastic. Very clean and quiet. I would recommend this B&B for anyone looking to kick back and relax.

On August 15, we began a five-night stay at the Commander's Beach House - our fourth stay in as many years. The Commander's is lovingly decorated with nautical objects and charming period family pictures. Gail's breakfasts are very delicious, beautifully presented, and rotated for those on longer stays. Jim and Gail are the epitome of B&B hosts -- kind, friendly, helpful. When they need to be away, Pamela is a charming host and fills in very capably and professionally. The Commander's is situated in a beautiful spot -- across the lawn and beyond the lovely flowers is the beach. The nearby RV park provides the opportunity to meet more friendly and interesting travelers. The park is very clean and very quiet. We always recommend this B&B to our friends. We are already looking forward to our next stay.

Room Tip: The Schooner Room is adorable with its nautical objects. It is a small room with a private bath on t...

There are a few things you always look for in a bed and breakfast; a good location,
a comfortable bed, a clean bathroom, and gracious hosts. The Commander's House
meets or exceeds all of these. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the breakfast
was excellent and Gail and Jim were gracious hosts, easy to talk to, and willing to share
information about the area. Maybe some day we can visit again.

Two nights in the Sunflower Room were two nights of bliss. The shared bath situation worked out fine, and did not take away from the experience. Summertime nights with the windows open - perfect sleeping. Big closet and dresser, perfect for stowing everything we needed for the big weekend. Beautifully decorated and spotless. Excellent breakfast; breathtaking views; comfortable living room and porch overlooking the water. It was the perfect weekend.

Room Tip: Every room is a perfect room for the B&B enthusiast.
