“The Bates Motel of Washington”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2013

The people at the desk were nice and the location is good. It fell off the cliff after that. The room was expensive, but I understand milking the tourists on a busy weekend even if I don't like the practice. Like others, we were stuck there during a busy weekend.

We were greeted by people sitting on the stoop smoking. Both the people and the motel have seen better days. The sign says "Port Townsend Motel" with the "M" burned out. The locks are the of the bent key variety and the handles and doors were dirty on the outside and all else was dirtier on the inside.

We headed to Safeway to get cleaning supplies and spent the next hour cleaning and disinfecting the room. I particularly liked wiping up the dead flies caught in the dead spider's web on the shelf above the clothing rack. Also, there were cob webs in the corners and along corner walls. The headboard top was beyond dusty and into the dirty category. I used a paper towel to wipe up a stain and the towel was black from a two-inch spot. The room needed a very, very deep cleaning. The TV was the old fashioned box which we never used, so I cannot say if it worked. The electrical socket near the bed was coming out of the wall. The area under the bed had not been cleaned in a long time. There is a small refrigerator on the floor with a microwave sitting on top the refrigerator. We immediately removed the bedspread.

It was so bad that I took pictures in case they tried to charge me for damages. Okay, I am a dummy for staying there and I give myself one-star. Don't do it. Stay elsewhere even if it means an hour drive.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere

A busy Labor Day weekend and no vacancies all over town! Port Townsend Inn had a room for us and everything we needed. Very basic accommodations but all we needed. Wifi, clean room, close to the Whidbey Island Ferry and the remarkable town of Port Townsend. We even received a phone call from them since we were on the road and arriving late. That was a nice touch.

And I probably got the last hotel room in town. So, it was tremendously expensive. Which might have been mitigated if they had had amenities like a box of kleenex. It did have a big jacuzzi but that's not what I needed. I didn't need the heavy burgundy drapes either. Its one redeeming value was that it was an end unit and I could see the water from the room. It had some elements of a kitchen (fridge, microwave, coffee maker). But, I had to wash the knife before I could use it!
Bed was actually pretty comfortable and looked clean.

Room Tip: Ask for the end unit upstairs (and then cringe when you hear how much!)

The jacuzzi suite is a perfect honeymoon suite; large, romantic with big squishy towels for the huge jacuzzi. The kitchen is completely stocked, so if someone wanted a truly romantic weekend getaway, one could always bring or order food and 'get away from the world'.
Su, at the front desk, surprised up with chilled champagne and chocolates in the fridge, and I had brought rose petals to scatter on the bed. Just call and make arrangements, and deals can be found here during the week days or off season. The room is huge, larger than our 1st apartment, and there is a flat screen TV. Port Townsend of course, has many sights and attractions to go and see as well, but it's nice to know there is a cozy getaway for 2.
The owners and staff are super helpful and friendly, the prices here are good, and if you don't stay in the suite they do have a pool and hot tub that is sparkling clean, and many family-friendly rooms. Good location to jump into town, the ferry, but if you want to stay in the Penny Saver is at the foot of their entrance. It's a convenience store with decent prices on wine selection and the yummiest sandwiches in town, so a romantic getaway of family tour of the town is quite easy and pleasant here.

Room Tip: Check out the jacuzzi room for your next anniversary or romantic getaway!

We have traveled quite frequently to Port Townsend and always stay at the Port Townsent Inn. They have a pool, are clean and comfortable. Don't expect blizzs though. We didn't use the fitness center so instead of terrible I indicated average. The hotel is pretty close to the main arterial, which is handy but don't forget to explore the other area's of the city.

I think this place could use a refurbishment. Prices are good. Decent pool & hot tub. Nice people. Okay rooms. Nothing special. I arrived late on Labour Day Weekend when everything else seemed to be booked. This one wasn't. Now I know why.

We pulled into Port Townsend late one evening in Aug 2013. We were two couples travelling by motorcycle. Port Townsend Inn had a room available with one queen bed & one twin bed. We though that the twin bed would be slightly bigger than the single bed it actually was. We made it work by making the large chair in the room & the luggage rack we found in the closet into a makeshift bed! All part of the fun. The man on reception was very helpful & gave us extra sheets, blankets & pillow.

The hotel itself is a little older, but it was clean & the pool/hot-tub area was in good working order. Extra towels were provided at reception for the pool. Free Wifi worked great. Breakfast was included with the room. The location is good for walking to nearby restaurants, bars etc. There is a very good East Indian restaurant in Port Townsend (see my review of Muskan East Indian - Port Townsend)

We would stay here again if in the Port Townsend area.
