Get ready to be spoiled! Although the inn keepers were out when we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by a member of their staff and shown around the place. On the first floor to the right of the entry hall there's a sitting room/library with arm chairs, a tasteful game table and books galore. Back across the entry and down the hall is a large professional-grade chef's kitchen, the dining room, and an adjacent guest bathroom. At the far end of the dining room there's also a large couch and fireplace. French doors off the dining room open onto the covered porch. We were also shown a shared guest's fridge with complimentary water and sodas, and were invited to bring any leftovers back from dinner if we wanted. The hostess led the way upstairs, made sure we needed for nothing, and left us alone to get used to the place. Although I know there are more rooms, we only saw the four on the second floor where we stayed. We arrived when the floor was otherwise empty and were able to see all of the rooms and compare them. While they vary in size all are arranged beautifully with extremely comfortable high quality furniture. Everything is tastefully done and each room works well. The furniture all looks near new - not one worn or broken piece in the whole place. In each room there are knick nacks and treasures to explore, books to read, and great areas to relax and just be at peace. We stayed in the Admiralty Suite and loved it from window seat to claw-foot tub. The king sized sleigh bed was covered in comfy sheets, the gas fireplace was gorgeous, and the matching mission style chairs and footstools were our well suited for reading, relaxing and napping. When we came down to head to dinner we met Dave, and he gave us a welcome and made sure we were oriented and had a good plan in place for the evening. Food both mornings was incredible - Dave does the cooking and he has definitely found his calling as everything was prepared perfectly. Carolyn provided warm service and engaging conversation during both the breakfasts we were there for. The dining room seats sixteen at four country-elegant tables, yet the room never felt the least bit crowded even when with a full house during the second day of our stay.
We could not have had a better time during our stay at Ravenscroft Inn. Dave & Carolyn Petro are outstanding hosts! They have a real knack for making guests feel welcome and at ease, and they deserve the rave reviews you see here. Do not be put off by older reviews still out there from a previous owner's tenure - we live within 50 miles and between us have stayed in several B&Bs and none can compare to Ravenscroft Inn. It's a true gem and a home away from home we can't wait to get back to.
