My husband and I have backwards work schedules. So to get a night where we both can spend time together is a precious thing. Last night on Valentine's day we took the opportunity for dinner and a movie. We decided to try Thai 65 since it was by the theater we were going to see a movie.
When we first entered we were impressed with the decor and the fact we were seated rather quickly in the bar area. That was the highlight of our visit. My husband received a phone call from work and stepped out to take it. By the time he got back, which was 15 minutes later, a waitress had not come over to take our drink and appetizer order. When looking around there were three waitresses taking care of the entire restaurant. When the waitress came over we decided we better put all of order in because of the situation.
My husband ordered a Thai Iced Tea that was suppose to have Captain Morgan's in it. When the drink came he couldn't taste any addition to it. Meanwhile I ordered a screwdriver. Taking the first sip made me cough because the vodka was so overwhelming. I had my husband try it and he too was overwhelmed. He took it to the bar to ask for more juice to be added. The only reason he took it to the bar was because no waitress came over to check on us to see how we were doing. He waited at the bar for 10 minutes for someone to notice he was there. They had no bar tender and it was one of the waitress trying to do the bar. We then figured out they didn't know how to make it because it was made with what tasted like pineapple juice.
We ordered the spring rolls for an appetizer. We were expecting to see a Thai spring roll which is smaller than an egg roll. What we received was literally a bit size spring roll. The filling was practically not there and it was a noodle substance. It was mostly fried wrapper with plum sauce. For the entree we ordered sweet and sour chicken, yellow curry, and sticky rice. The sweet and sour chicken was okay but there was hardly any chicken on the plate. There were big pieces of cucumber, onions, and bell pepper and two pieces of pineapple with very little chicken. The sticky rice came in a very cute bamboo little container. Then we removed the top to see the sticky rice in bags that we had to remover ourselves. We had to be careful because the steam was so hot it could have burned you. I like spice but not too spicy. So normally at a Thai restaurant we will get one star. When eating the curry it tasted like three stars. It was incredibly spicy.
At no time during the meal did a waitress come over and ask us how we are doing or even fill our water glasses. The couple next to us were complaining about their Phad Thai and green curry and making comments about how it didn't taste good. They too didn't receive any service during the meal. When the waitress did come around to deliver the bill the gentlemen asked for a refill on his soda since it wasn't refilled during the meal. The waitress acted bothered took it over to the bar and only filled it 1/4 of the way.
When you go out to eat you go to restaurants that fit your mood at that time. Both my husband and I weren't in to an expensive meal nor were we in for a fast food meal. We wanted a casual meal with great service and great food. Sadly we didn't find either at Thai 65.
