Have just returned from our first stay at the TownePlace Suites (always stay at the Courtyard) in Richland, Wa. Since we got such a great rate, thought we'd give this new property a try. Had read this property was near the freeway, didn't realize how close until we pulled up and got out of our car. Was very concerned at that point about road noise being this close to this very busy freeway, but throughout our stay, never really heard any traffic noise. This property must be well insulated. Upon entering, Chris was more than welcoming at the front desk. Couldn't of been more pleasant and helpful, great way to start out your stay at this property. I wonder if these folks at the front desk realize how important their job is, they represent not only their property, Marriott itself. Our room was on the third floor facing a parking lot, there really aren't any 'views' at this property vs. the Courtyard which is on the river. Not a big deal, not there for the scenery. Our room was spotless, couldn't find a single complaint when it came to cleanliness. The bed was very comfortable as were the feather pillows. The kitchen is situated as you walk into the room. Has a small full fridge, cooktop, large microwave, full dish set up for 4 and the usual pots, pans and silverware. What we appreciated most was the 12 cup coffee pot!!!! Not one of those mini things that makes one cup at a time and those foam cups. A large coffeepot, coffee and real coffee mugs!! The room itself is nicely decorated and has plentiful plug ins for all of our electronic 'stuff' we lug around. Had read that there was wired internet in the rooms so we brought our own travel router only to discover that there is wireless internet in the rooms. It was good enough that I was able to watch Netflix and other entertainment on my iPad without any issues at all. The bathroom was cute and clean, but small, I mean I felt like I was in a hobbit's house it is so small. Fortunately, there are lots of drawers throughout the room and bathroom to store stuff. The counter in the bathroom is just nonexistent so we utilized the drawers. The closet, iron and ironing board is also in the bathroom with the doors opening out into the bathroom making this hobbit sized bathroom so much smaller. Shower was great, plenty of hot water.
We went to the continental breakfast our first morning which was fine. Hot oatmeal, breads, waffle maker, hard boiled eggs, cereal, juice and fruit. Witnessed a mom in her camo flannel pj bottoms, sweatshirt and houseshoes come in from a morning stroll with her giant sized pit bull come into the breakfast area to yell at her kids. Dead silence and stares as this pit bull thought he'd sniff everyones tables. As mom yelled at her kids eating and the pit bull sniffed our tables (I was too scared to get up and leave, figured at that point I'd be this dogs breakfast, so I sat). As soon as the gal at the front desk realized the situation she rushed over to nicely inform 'mom' no dogs allowed. Mom left and came back for some reason and again left. Think I heard a collective sigh of relief after all was done.
Overall, I'd recommend this property, though I'd not recommend for more than 2 people in a room due to the size. Perhaps there are larger rooms for families.
