Gracious host, good bartender, surprisingly strong and competitively priced winelist, and simply good, fresh food. We ended up having most of our meals there too. Loved the location and the beach was easy to get to. I have lived in Oregon for years and never ventured here. What a mistake. I will return. Two nights was not long enough it seems. Unlike a chain hotel with its sameness and repetition, every room has it's own story it seems. If you have questions, I suspect they would let you preview rooms to make sure it works for you. In our case it was perfect for our situation. Remember, this hotel has been in operation for more than 100 years -- that is part of its special charm and quaint unpredictability. I don't need to stay in another Sheraton or Marriott room, thank you very much.

Room tip: Every room is different. Doesn't hurt to look at a room first.

Many things about this place are great. Decor in the rooms is perfect for the old pub style of the building : High beds, claw foot tubs, etc. I was in room 4 - good sized room, small but certainly adequate bath. All amenities. Cozy comfortable bed, reasonably good sized room. Walls were thin so a bit noisy with the folks next door, it it is an older building.

My biggest issue with the hotel was that I booked the hotel with Expedia and the room I got was of "lesser quality" than what I expected. I know Expedia, and other sites, take a percentage of the price but most of the other places I have stayed have absorbed that cost and given me the same quality of room as if I had booked directly. Not a fatal flaw but I deducted a star for it. Especially as I did mention it to the gal who checked me in and even though the place was mostly empty she did not try to make it right.

If you appreciate history you will love this place. We felt we had gone back in time staying here. The rooms were tastefully appointed and filled with antiques. We had a claw-foot tub in our room that was a nice treat. It was also the first time we've ever slept in a canopy bed. Even if you don't stay here, I would recommend the dining room or bar. The food bar was excellent. On Tuesday night they had live music and we met some locals. The bartender, Danny was creative and entertaining. He makes his own infusions. The owner Dave met us when we checked in and visited with us during breakfast - a nice touch.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. We're glad you enjoyed your stay, and found the accommodations both appealing and comfortable. We and our staff do take pride in what we do and it makes a huge difference for all of us when that gets noticed. We hope to see you again soon.

A musty odor greeted us upon checking in. Our room was on the third floor (by choice). it was cramped and very uncomfortable. The decor was cheap and charmless - trinkets were gathered with commercialism in mind. thus lacked a true patina. Wi-fi was available but slow to connect. We forfeited our second night. Breakfast was included. We should have followed the advice of the table next to us and picked the mushroom omelet. Instead the waffles were IHop caliber and the first - and only - teaspoon of granola tasted like sawdust. Since our bused table was still wet, I dried it with a cloth napkin. It came up black - ew. The rating would have been 1 if not for the staff, who was very cheerful and professional. We overheard that some regulars stopped coming here since the place changed hands. It should change hands again soon. The people who work here deserve better.

Room tip: None here. For a true romantic getaway try the Discovery Coast Inn.

This is a wonderful stay in every respect. The Inn itself is beautiful and set right near the beach. The owners are absolutely delightful and the food superb, with creative northwest flavors and touches throughout. My wife and I stay here every chance we get and we always recommend it to anyone visiting. One quick side note, for a brief period the Inn was operated by surrogate management which did not uphold the high standards, but thankfully the traditional owners are back again and the place is just as marvelous as it ever was. Highly recommend in every way!

Room tip: The China Beach annex of the Shelburne is more secluded and great for families and would be perfect for a family renunion
