We stayed at the HIE while visiting the Olympic National Park. Port Angeles is more convenient, but we had used HI points for a couple of nights and this is not far - about 15 minutes down the road. Also I think there are more dining choices in Sequim. Crescent Lake Lodge (in the park near Port Angeles) is nice and we've stayed there before, but the cost is higher. We arrived late and the hotel was full - the young man at the desk was very accommodating. So the staff was great, the hotel seems newer and was very clean. The breakfast was good for chain hotel free breakfasts.
