“When in Port Angeles make the trip to Sequim”
Reviewed 1 July 2014 via mobile

We enjoyed the food here so much we visited twice during our stay on the Olympic Peninsula.
Very creative menu and excellent wine list. We sat outdoors both times and it was a very enjoyable evening both times.
We will definitely visit again during our next visit.

“Fabulous meal!!”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

This was a wonderful surprise! It was a small place but it had wonderfully unique food that was deliciously prepared. For example, the salads were made with greens other than the usual of lettuce, romaine, or spinach. So good!!

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely recommend eating here!!!

“Only had time to eat here once. That's a shame.”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

We only had a few days in Sequim. When we asked the proprietor at Dungeness Barn House Bed and Breakfast where we should eat dinner, she did not hesitate to recommend this place. This was good advice and I am glad we took it. Everything seemed more flavorful than what would have been the case if the the same menu item were to be ordered at some other eatery. I suspect this is due to locally sourced ingredients. What ever accounts for the flavor, it was impressive. When we next return to Sequim we will dine here again.

“Best restaurant on the Olympic Peninsula”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

The Olympic Peninsula produces some of the best vegetables, fish, mushrooms, fruits, and meat in the world, and the farms churn out the goodies year round. This restaurant takes advantage of all that bounty, enhances it with skillful, imaginative cooking, and serves it up to lucky customers. Alder Wood Bistro is the perfect little country restaurant you dream of finding but almost never do. It is informal and unpretentious, but it is run by a sophisticated couple who really know their food and wine. Gabriel and Jessica spend one month each year visiting restaurants in Spain, and their menu has touches of the sun. Gabriel has also spent years making contacts among local farmers and fishermen; his meals are made of the best that the Olympic Peninsula has to offer, and they showcase whatever is at its succulent, seasonal peak.

Our most recent meal featured rye bread made with local grain; fat, minerally fried oysters, superb red and white king salmon, and lightly confited young chicken from Chimacum's Spring Rain Farm. Sides included pickled cherries with polenta and sweet corn kernels, and a magnificent risotto made with local chard. A local farmer is raising quail these days, so Gabriel brought out a Spanish dish of quail eggs and chorizo on toast.

As I say, Alder Wood is not pretentious. They serve a great burger and the best fries west of Seattle. Their thin crust pizzas, baked in their wood fired oven, are wonderful. Wines are well chosen and very reasonably priced, and there is a fine selection of the Nectar of the Northwest - beer. Dinner is served five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday, and it starts at 4:30 pm, a blessing to jet lagged visitors and famished hikers alike.

This place is worth a side trip. Don't miss it.

“Amazing dinner in Sequim”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

Loved this restaurant from the moment that I saw the menu--lots of locally sourced food, including a fantastic pork chop last night. The polenta that accompanied it was enough to send me back to the polenta drawing board and try to recreate it at home. My husband's king salmon was cooked to perfection. And the starters were equally impressive. We'll be back.
