As we write this, A Lighthouse On Hammersley has 76 traveler reviews here and not one is anything less than “Excellent.” Having spent last weekend there we can now add our own Excellent Rating. What an amazing place. We believe the Ranking of #1 would be the same in Seattle as it is in Shelton.
If you don’t think of yourself as the B&B type please don’t let that stop you. This is not the stereotypical Bed and Breakfast. It is more a miniature lodge or resort. (Though miniature is not exactly the right word for this grand and spacious accommodation.)
Anyone would undoubtedly be impressed by the attention to detail that goes far beyond the usual. The house itself is spectacular. Clearly much thought was given to creating the most pleasing and remarkable layout imaginable. And the decor is so beautiful that we were surprised to learn Kelly isn’t a professional decorator. We can’t imagine anyone walking in for the first time and not saying “wow.”
Breakfast was delicious and elegantly served down to the candlelight and quiet music playing in the background. The special touch of a different theme for the place settings each day showed a great love of entertaining.
The location is not really as far from the highway as it might seem and the directions are easy to follow. It’s just rural enough to provide peaceful, relaxing surroundings. The grounds and view of Hammersley Inlet are the very definition of “serene.” For anyone worried about finding nearby entertainment: the well-stocked theater room, game room with pool &ping-pong table, exercise room and library are all included in the very reasonable rates. And all can be reached without putting on your shoes! If you don’t arrange for dinner at the B&B, try venturing into Shelton -- there are some good restaurants in town.
Last but certainly not least, A Lighthouse on Hammersley has the best hosts imaginable. Friendly, helpful, and fun doesn’t begin to describe them. They are also extremely considerate and caring. We were in town for a funeral and their thoughtfulness was much appreciated. Do yourself a favor and spend as much time talking with Phil and Kelly as time allows. Phil’s stories of his life and how he and Kelly put this place together from the ground up are fascinating. They could literally write a book on how to run the perfect B&B.
