“Stunning !! Service & Views”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

What a fantastic place. The Front Desk staff are the friendliest we have ever encountered at a BW Hotel..I hope their employer reads these reviews. They were over the top friendly, helpful & their service was outstanding!!

The Hotel itself was nice decor wise, rooms were clean , not too big, but big enough for 2. Bathrooms were small however for 2 people. Pool area was nice & clean.

We enjoyed the breakfast buffet, and had no problem paying the extra fee of a mere 7.00 however the menu stated there would be fresh fruit & a chefs special item. The fresh fruit was disappointing as it was a bowl or apples & oranges. As far as we could tell there was nothing "special" on the buffet items menu, very similar to any other BW Hotel we have stayed at. But as like all other BW Hotels the breakfast was enjoyable.

As it was was a warm beautiful morning, we did ask to sit outside & were happily accommodated. I did not understand why they had not dressed tables prior on the the outside patio as the view is beautiful and what better way to enjoy breakfast ! (note to management)

The location was superb! Beautiful views of the inlet & beach. The walkway & outdoor fire pits were a nice added touch.

There was a blues band playing in the lounge and enjoyed that as well . Food in lounge was okay. Not great but typical "pub" food. Service was okay as well.

Will definitely stay again if ever passing through town.

Room Tip: Choose a room with Ocean View only.. 3rd Floor

This is a great hotel. We stay there whenever we are in Silverdale. My only advice would be to bring your own pillow unless you like really fat pillows. Good breakfast and great location for shopping.

To kick-off our kids Memorial Day Break this year, we planned a 1-night stay here as part of a GROUPON deal we had. This was our first time to stay at the Silverdale Beach Hotel, and we had a good-time!

Here are some of the highlights of our recent trip to the Silverdale Beach Hotel:

- The drive. It took us only 55 minutes to get to the hotel from our home. So, it was close-enough by car to not require a toilet-break, but far-enough to feel like you’re on a vacation elsewhere – especially when you smell the saltwater in the air by the hotel.

- Early check-in. Their check-in time is 4pm. However, we were able to check-in at 1:30pm – 2 ½ hours earlier, which meant the kids swimming pool-fun got started sooner!

- Late check-out. Their check-out time is 11am, but we asked for late-check-out and were allowed to extend until Noon at no additional charge.

- Hop Jacks. This restaurant was featured in South Sound Magazine for their tasty burgers and is footsteps from the hotel. It’s family friendly. Their food is reasonably priced and service is fast. You must try their yummy home-made chips with garlic-ranch. This place was such a favorite of ours while staying at the hotel that we ate here twice within 24 hours!

- The pool. Our kids loved the hotel’s near-Olympic sized swimming pool and Jacuzzi. Like most kids, give them a pool and they are entertained for hours. The pool’s location is surrounded by wall-to-wall windows which face-out to the Puget Sound for a unique water-near-water experience.

- Clear Creek Trail. At the back of the hotel, you will find a beachfront path that forms part of the Clear Creek Trail. It is the top nature attraction in Silverdale and we loved it! You can walk, run, or bike to explore it. It’s a great feature of the hotel to have this trail and natural landscape right at their doorstep for guests to access. The Clear Creek Trail is a MUST-DO while staying here especially if you love the outdoors.

- The balcony view. We had a partial water view of the Dyes Inlet beachfront from our room balcony (on the third floor), which was nice to have to lookout while kicking-back.

What could have been better during our stay . . .

- Before coming to the hotel, we saw at the hotel’s website, as well as, printed on our GROUPON voucher that the hotel had complimentary bikes for guests’ use, which we were looking forward to using as a family. However, when we requested to use the bikes, we were informed that the hotel only has two bikes – literally the plural minimum of what they advertised. Are you kidding me?! This was quite disappointing since we wanted to bike together as a family and couldn’t now. Nevertheless, our two kids did use the two bikes – but not before Alan in Maintenance filled the tires with air, which was good they checked before we used them. Personally, we think the hotel is missing-the-mark here with just the two bikes considering the Clear Creek Trail is such a great feature to the hotel, an investment should be made by the hotel to add more bikes for guests to use.

- After we returned from dinner, we noticed in our room water dripping from the ceiling/vent area near the bathroom sink which caused a small puddle on the floor. We had to call the front-desk two times to have Maintenance come and check this issue which was annoying. The total time until Maintenance responded was nearly 30 minutes. However, the response time between our second call to the front desk and Maintenance coming was 5-10 minutes, which makes us believe that the front-desk likely dropped-the-ball when we called the first-time until we called back 25 minutes later to check on the status. In the end, Alan from Maintenance came to our room and removed a clog from under our bathroom sink which was the cause of the dripping/leak from filter/vent area in the ceiling. Alan did a good job troubleshooting this problem and fixed this issue very quickly once in our room to stop the dripping.

Some other useful “know-before-you-go” tips we’d share:

- This hotel is a Best Western PLUS property, which I didn’t realize before coming here that Best Western’s actually have different grades of hotels (Standard, Plus, and Premier). But, what you should expect with the PLUS is this will not be your regular Best Western. The rooms will be better appointed and have more modern amenities, which we agree with this description and our experience here.
- Free Parking.
- Free WiFi.
- Pet Friendly – can bring “Fido” for $20 cleaning fee.
- Waterfront patio with fire pit.
- Silverdale is very commercial and has many retail shopping centers and restaurants.

Bottom line, we paid $87.45 with our GROUPON deal which included breakfast buffet for two-adults for the one-night (Children are $3.95 extra). The value of the breakfast was $15.90 ($7.95 x 2). Overall, we think it’s a good value for what we paid. However, don’t set a high expectation for this breakfast buffet. The quality of the breakfast buffet could be improved. In addition, before coming to the hotel, we did a quick check of the hotel’s current rates at their website for the same room we had booked with our GROUPON. The rate for our room at their website was $99.74 with no breakfast.

In the end, if you are looking for a good family stay-cation spot in the Puget Sound, the Best Western PLUS – Silverdale Beach Hotel is a good affordable choice for a fun family-getaway. We look forward to coming back one day!

Room Tip: Although we stayed on the third floor this time, the ground-floor rooms on the backside of the hotel...

We were very impressed by the location of this hotel: what a beautiful and quiet view. Breakfast was a treat: nice options (the individual waffles with interesting flavours were a big hit with the kids) and the view of the lake was wonderful.
We had a partial view room which was very nice too: it's always interesting to witness the tides. I really liked the decoration of the room and the efforts this hotel is doing for being Green.
The pool could have been cleaner: babies in diaper sometimes bring suspicious floating things which we mention to the front desk. The sauna is a nice addition.
We will definitively come back to this hotel if we are in the area.

We stayed at the Silverdale Beach Hotel for four nights.

The first night the A/C would not work at all. It got fairly warm in the room and by six a.m. we were hot and wide awake with the sliding door open trying to cool off. Thankfully we were in a partial water view room (311) so the air was cool outside, but it certainly did not fix the problem.

When we went down for breakfast we asked for maintenance to look at the A/C after 1:30 because we would be gone by then and out of their way. When we were back at almost 6 they still hadn't. We had to call again. They maintenance worker was very prompt this time and polite. He inspected the unit briefly and gave us the option of having him work on it for two hours and maybe not be able to fix it or move to a different room.

We moved right next door to room 313. Because of the shape of the room the second room was much more cramped than the first. It had been mostly cleaned but there was a beer bottle lid that was on the floor when we got there between the one bed and the sliding glass door. It was still there when we checked out. It is very narrow between the two so I guess I can see how it could be missed.

The sheets at the hotel don't actually fit the beds. They are made for much thinner mattresses. Every morning we woke up with the sheets pulled off the corners, but since they never reached the bottom of the mattress to begin with this was not surprising, although it was annoying

The A/C in the second room worked great until the last morning. In the morning I went to go to the closet which is across from the vanity/sink in a tiled section of the room outside of the actual bathroom. Thankfully as soon as I put my foot down I realized that the floor was wet as I hadn't turned the light on yet. The A/C unit for the room is in the ceiling above the tiled floor between the sink and the closet. Water had been streaming out of it and there was an almost two foot in diameter puddle of water. I could have easily slipped and fell. I put down a towel and mopped it up as best I could. I left the towel there to keep soaking up new drips. Later the water was streaming down again and had completely soaked the towel so I moved the trash can there. We let the reception desk know when we checked out. (We had people in another room tell us that their A/C did the same thing)

The $7.99 all you can eat buffet breakfast was actually pretty good for a hotel breakfast. I really enjoyed the blueberry scones which I'm guessing they only have on the weekends as they weren't there on Tuesday morning. The Belgian waffles were yummy. They don't have bacon on the weekend, only ham and sausage. Ham was kind of dry. The staff was mostly friendly (only one that was not...please don't ask me how I am if you don't actually plan to listen). Lonnie was terrific!

The floor around the pool is incredibly uncomfortable to walk on, so take your flip flops!

My one true complaint (about breakfast)...and it's a big one...do not try to make toast! Give up. Walk away. You're time is worth more to you. So, here's the deal. In the corner there is a toaster. I had toast on two of my mornings. What happens is that you put the toast in and before it can finish the cycle is breaks the circuit. You can't restart the toaster until the circuit resets itself which takes about a minute. The way that you can tell without just standing there desperately trying to put the toaster knob down again (it won't engage until the circuit is reset) is to watch the light in the hallway outside the breakfast area. There is a window there and when the toaster trips the light goes out. As soon as the light pops back on you can then restart the toaster. And then you do the exact same thing over again. And again. And again. I gave up at the fourth go round. The toast was just starting to get golden brown, but because of all the interruptions it wasn't warm enough to melt the butter. Why the toaster is on the same circuit as a light I don't know, but it is. They should either get adequate circuitry or give up on the toast. It's ridiculous.

Okay, so this all paints a pretty negative picture. The hotel staff that we dealt with was terrific(except that one waitress). They were friendly and accommodating and helpful. The view from the hotel is nice. There is a nice path around the water. We noticed two yellow bikes parked in the back the whole time and wondered if they were available for rent from the hotel, but never got a chance to ask. The indoor pool was great. Lots of windows so great water views even from there. It was a little weird to have to go to the basement and do the long walk to get there, but it was great not having to go through the lobby in a towel so I understand it completely.

Would we stay there again? Yes. Despite the inconveniences it's in a great location and staff friendliness goes a long way.

Room Tip: Water view rooms are nice, but be aware that they are not all configured the same way and some are r...

Hello Brian S,

Thank you for the great review, and I'm very glad that you enjoyed your stay! Yes, two very large bald eagles nest about a 1/4 mile from the hotel, and when they show up, they're always amazing to observe. Please come see us again next time you're in the area.
