“Great sandwiches!”
Review of White Box Cafe and Bakery - CLOSED

White Box Cafe and Bakery
Price range: US$8 - US$12
Cuisines: American, Healthy
Description: Our family started over thirteen years ago making homemade, from scratch pies packaged in a white bakery box wrapped in a ribbon. Hence the name WHITE BOX PIES. What started out as a 'mom and pop' venture, and has grown into a full time resturant and bakery experience. Shirley and John have brought years of experience to the table. Six years ago their daughter, Leigh, joined the family business and together they have produced delicious, homemade food...All from scratch. As our bakery grew we added cheesecakes, dessert bars, deli style sandwiches, fresh salads and soups, homemade pot pies, quiche', stuffed peppers, and twice baked potatoes. And just recently, our resturant had the opportunity to remodel and expand our seating, and add breakfast to our menu. We now have over 60+ seats available for our customers, to enjoy breakfast, lunch and desserts. Welcome to Whitebox Cafe' and Bakery!

We've driven past this restaurant a thousand times until last week. We stopped in for lunch. We were able to order quickly and our lunch was out to us within 10 minutes.

We ordered the Veggie sandwich ($8.95) and the French Dip ($9.75). The sandwiches come with a choice of a side salad or cup of soup. We chose soup - chicken & rice and vegetable beef.

Both sandwiches were delicious!! Fresh bread and great taste!! We are definitely coming back for lunch!

The soups were OK...nothing great and kinda bland. My boyfriend would like to try the chili next time instead of the veggie beef soup. I'm going to try a side salad because the chicken & rice just didn't have much flavor.

We didn't have any problems with the service unlike what other TA's have experienced. We did think their signs were not friendly - basically requesting people to leave immediately after finishing the meal. They make no qualms about not wanting people to linger. This is causal dining and they have a small seating area.

They had a full case of pastries but we didn't try any.

Note of advice - check their website for coupons before going to this restaurant! There's a free dessert bar with each full price lunch order and other coupons as well. http://www.whiteboxpiesbakery.com/

We recently visited Spokane and were so happy to have found White Box Pies!
The three of us--two with Celiac disease, me allergic to wheat--were so amazed by the choice of gluten free desserts and lunch items that we couldn't make up our minds as to what to order.

Between us we ordered a quiche and salad, a chicken pot pie and soup, and a sandwich and soup. All gluten free and all were excellent, the sandwich bun was amazing. I have plenty of years of experience with gluten free buns, both home made and bought and this one was really superior to anything.

Then on the gluten free desserts. Hubby had strawberry-rhubarb pie for the first time in many, many years. There were so many to choose from, it was hard to decide, so we bought several items that would keep better, and kept some of them for the car trip home.

We had very friendly, helpful service. We will definitely return the next time we visit Spokane, a city that I really enjoy.

We had high expectations after arriving from Alaska where we have no GF bakeries and very few restaurants that accommodate our needs reliably(half of our family are "certified" celiacs. We tried the eclairs, a cream puff, and some bread pudding. Both the cream puffs and eclairs tasted stale, not just a day old dry kind of stale common with GF breads but the kind that includes bad flavor. The bread pudding was better, not being stale but nothing special like we had hoped for. Maybe the thing to do is ask what is fresh before ordering? We will try it again before going home because everyone deserves a second chance!

If you are anywhere near Spokane, I mean even remotely close, eat lunch here! Hands down the greatest sandwiches I have ever eaten! Their pasta salad sides are incredible as well, and all for a very reasonable price. Tip: you cannot go wrong with their Grilled Italian Sandwich, and the Chicken Spinach Bowtie Pasta Salad!

Diagnosed as celiac 6 years ago. Have gotten pies for special occasions since diagnosed. Had lunch today at White Box Pies and it was great. Had the first french dip, on a gluten free crossaint bun and it was fantastic. Ordered the full sandwich snd potato salad. Would really recommend highly for those who need to eat gluten-free, as those who just like good healthy food prepared well and served courteously.
