“A Gem!”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

I had to make a very quick trip to Spokane and considered doing the round-trip in a day, but decided to spend the night. Since it was a quick turn-around I wanted a reasonably priced but clean place to stay for the night. Hotel Ruby was a unbelievable find. The location is fantastic in the heart of downtown, walking distance from restaurants, bars, shopping, and the riverfront park. The staff was very friendly, the room was clean and comfortable, and the price was very reasonable. What more could you ask? It wouldn't qualify as "boutique", but maybe budget boutique or just retro-cool. I will definitely return to explore more in Spokane and Hotel Ruby will be the choice for a place to stay.

Having only the ability to check in one person at a time, especially between the hours of 3 & 4pm, make for a tedious and dispiriting process. It wasn't until 5 pm that I was able to retrieve my key to my hospitality suite. Doesn't this hotel believe in lights and outlets, the latter that are accessible from the bed without having to travel to plug in your electronic devises. If you have more than one to power up, forget about doing it from the comfort of your bed. If you choose to unplug the lamp in order to have 2 outlets, then you have no light by which to read, let alone find anything in the now completely dark, tiny clothes closet. The TV set looked promising, a large LED screen at least 45".
However, once turned on, one can access less than 20 channels, although it displays all the cable channels you can not access, even something as basic as TMC! What a bore. I was hoping for a fun, lively stay, only to be hampered by a serious lack of thought when it comes to lighting, outlets and cable access. Stay elsewhere if you want to see across the room with all the lights on!

We have stayed here before and reviewed it on TripAdvisor last year. Have not visited since but this was our first choice when we were in Spokane last week.

As mentioned, this is a refurbished motel right in the heart of downtown. There is a small fee for paring ($5) and the lot is small so make sure you arrive early to get a spot. I am not sure what happens when the lot is full.

The check-in process was smooth and the clerk helpful and friendly. We were early so requested a specific room and although the room was not yet made up, they held it for us (It is a room on the end where no one walks past your window so you can leave the drapes open).

The room is a bit on the small side but nicely furnished and upgraded. In particular the bathroom has been well done. There is a small fridge and microwave. The linens and towels are good quality. The only drawback is no in-room coffee maker (it is available in the lobby).

The continental breakfast is basic but more than enough to get the day started. If you want more, there are some really good diners in the area.

They provide a coupon for a two for one drink in the Sapphire Lounge.

Not only is this a good hotel but the price is among the best you will find in downtown Spokane.

We will definitely continue to stay here.

Room Tip: End rooms mean no one will be walking by your window.

Great location in downtown Spokane - easy walk to riverside park, restaurants, businesses and attractions. Ruby is arty, campy, modern, fun. $88 compact room with fridge, microwave, TV and mini breakfast, off-street parking $5. Bicycles too. Adjoining the lobby is the Sapphire Bar.

Room Tip: 103 near the street has a tub but is noisier 120 was in the rear, shower only but quieter.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Spokane! It was such a great price so i was expecting a sorta dirty hotel. It was actually super clean, friendly staff, and great room for the value. Breakfast was just okay, but you'd expect that from any hotel. The only downfall to the hotel was the shower was very old and had an old ripped up bathmat that made it look extra dingy. 2 sinks in the room was nice, and the room was a good size and very clean nice bed. They also have free bikes you can take out to ride around the city for guests! Other than the bathtub i loved it! Oh, and the parking was another downfall, the lot wasn't big enough to fit everyone's car, thankfully we never had a problem parking, but if you return late you're unlikely to find a spot. All in all I would definitely go back.

This centrally located hotel came at a great price and met our expectations. We had a room with two beds and it was quite large. Very friendly staff. Great art, music and dance themed, throughout. Comfortable beds, clean rooms. They should add something next to the sink to hang a hand towel. Location could hardly be beat - walk to the river, lots of restaurants, shopping. Breakfast was typical, make your own waffles, cereals, bread product with toaster, hard boiled eggs, so-so coffee. Starbucks and other coffee venues are an easy walk, if you need real coffee. Ask for a pair of earplugs (they are free)to block out noise from air conditioner and from other guests walking around, showering, etc. The nearby train tracks did not generate significant noise. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Upper floor would have less noise.
