“Great Stay”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

I stayed in the tower hotel. The hotel is nice, my room was spacious and clean, and the staff was friendly. They do turn down service every night and leave some of the hotels signature soft peanut brittle & chocolate peanut brittle on your pillow, which is cool. My only knocks on the stay were the giant mirror in the headboard and the fact that they have soap dispensers in the showers and in the sink. That always knocks a hotel down a peg for me. Other than that the place is nice and it's convenient to shopping, dinning, and the river. If you stay in the tower, make sure to visit the original hotel. The lobby is gorgeous and the hotel has a lot of charm. It has it's own flower shop which is pretty neat.

There are two Davenport Hotel & Tower buildings there. One of them is the historical one. Another one is the new building.
I suggest that you check which one you have reserved. I used this website to reserve a room in this hotel, but we realized that our room was in the new building. The front desk told us that If we wanted to stay in the historical building, we had to add extra money. However, we still could visit the historical building whether we stayed in the new or historical buildings and the service was so great :)

This was my first visit to Spokane. I had heard of the Davenport prior to my visit but thought it out of my price range. Priceline made my hotel choice for me and I ended up staying here at a price I could afford. I should note, though, that I was initially expected to stay in the Davenport Tower. When I visited reception in the historic Davenport, though, I was offered an upgrade to one of its rooms for $20/night. I decided the additional fee was worth it, given all that I had heard about the historic hotel, and I ended up having a fabulous stay, well worth the additional fee.

I was given a corner room on the eighth floor, far from the elevator traffic, and with a bit of a view over downtown Spokane. The room was very large and lovely, as well as impeccably clean and furnished. The only downside was that the room was within earshot of a nearby rail line which was occasionally noisy: If rail noise bothers you, certainly make mention of it at reception. A few smaller issues: The rooms have no refrigerators or coffee service; no bars of soap are provided as guests are expected to rely exclusively on the shampoo and soap pumps in the bathroom; and the soda vending machine on my floor swallowed a great deal of change without providing a soda. But to their credit, on notification of this, the hotel staff rushed a can up to my room.

Of course, the hotel is an attraction in itself: One of Spokane's most notable architectural landmarks. Set aside enough time to explore the gorgeous lobby and mezzanine. It is very much a credit to Spokane that it is able to sustain such a terrific landmark hotel, while countless larger cities have lost the grand hotels of their pasts.

Downtown Spokane is at your doorstep, and the concierge was very helpful in suggesting places to visit. After a day of exploration, it was wonderful to return to the hotel to relax and enjoy a coffee in the grand surroundings of the lobby espresso bar.

I'll certainly be coming back to the Davenport.

Stayed during the Christmas holidays, so it was very, very crowded. The ambience is excellent, it has it's own unique vibe. We stayed in the towers. Bed and room were comfortable. Enjoyed the peanut brittle! The bathroom/WC area was poorly lit, which seems to be a troubling trend these days in hotels.

We stayed in the Davenport Towers recently and had a superb stay. Others have noted that the hotel decor is a safari theme, which we happened to enjoy. From the elephant light stands in the lobby to the various safari pictures and animals/heads located about the facility, and yes, to the leopard-printed lounge chairs in the rooms, the decor was enchanting. Perhaps not everyone likes this type of hotel design, but we loved it! What a "break" from all the other standard-issue-looking hotels around! This one was unique, and we truly appreciated it.

ALL of the staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and accommodating and we felt very welcome from the moment we arrived. We parked right across the street in the self-parking garage, which costs $15/24 hrs. and it was not difficult to move our luggage to and from. There is an option for valet parking, too. We felt this hotel was well-managed and very safe. The elevators utilize a room key card system for added security.

Our room was large and clean, and the HUGE (at least 2-man) walk-in shower was the best hotel one we have ever been in---USA and Europe. Likewise, the mattress was the most comfortable we have ever slept on, but like others have noted, the pillows were some of the worst we've ever used. Took three of them to have even a little firmness for our heads, but still not enough. The bed has a mirror behind the headspace, which is somewhat odd, but not bothersome. There are additional lighting options in that space, for reading and also one that has a lesser glow and could serve like a nightlight if desired.

The sink area is separated from the toilet/shower area by a pocket door. This door did not have a latch on it, and kept sliding open. Not sure if the hotel could put an additional latch on the inside of that door, but it would be appreciated if you have more than one guest in the room. The light switch for the sink area is not right in that area but rather out by the main door (which isn't that far away). Not a big deal, but if you are used to always having a light switch as you enter a bathroom area, it might take a little getting used to.

There weren't some amenities in the room that many hotels have, like a coffee pot, microwave, complimentary soaps, shower cap, etc., although the shower had a dispenser for washing gel, shampoo and lotion. Lighting in the room was above average. Many hotel rooms have limited, poor lighting, which is quite frustrating. While the Davenport hotel is environmentally conscious, the room still had many lighting options, which was appreciated.

Our window did face the south and the rail tracks were right down in front of us. Unlike others, though, we loved watching the trains come and go---a little bit of Americana right in front of us. We could hear the trains, but to us, it was heartwarming to hear and see a busy, active rail system that is an integral part of this city. We did not lose any sleep over the train activity.

This hotel is in a walkable part of Spokane. Riverfront Park and Trail are a few blocks away, as is the shopping mall and other stores/restaurants. The beautiful Cathedral of Our Lady Of Lourdes is also nearby, which made for an easy walk to church services. The older, historic Davenport Hotel is kitty-corner from the Towers and is a fun place to explore, with all of its majestic rooms.

There is a Starbucks Coffee stand in the lobby, plus the Safari Grill and Bar. We had drinks in the bar area, which is on both sides of the lobby area. One side has tables and booths like in a restaurant, but you can also be served on the opposite side in a very inviting space where there are additional tables and a large, comfy sofa and chairs, plus a fireplace. Our server in the bar was quite efficient and friendly. If you get a chance, have some Cougar Gold cheese dip w/ your drinks. Yum yum!

We had the champagne brunch at the Davenport Hotel and it was beyond fabulous! Pricey, but well-worth it. The food options were too numerous to list here, but everything tasted scrumptious and was presented beautifully. The servers were professional, outstanding, and quite attentive. Drinks were refilled continuously. This is a not-to-be-missed buffet.

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Davenport Towers and from now on, it will be our place to stay while we are visiting family in town.

The "tower" is a nice hotel, though the jungle theme was a bit confusing- why leopards in Spokane?.
Rooms were large. I heard lots of coming and going (doors opening, keys in doors etc) but little in-room noise. The bathroom felt like a gym with dispensers for shower gel, shampoo and lotion. The gym itself is well-equiped.
Beds were really soft & not good for any in our party's back. One elected to sleep on the floor. Pillows were feather & it was tough to get one that was even slightly firm.
Staff were friendly, but Watch out least you forget something: everything from the hotel has a price! $2 for 2 Tylenol tablets, for example. the nickel-and diming spoiled the experience.

Green Features: No recycling was available in the hotel. No organic food apparent on the menu.

This is a great hotel a must stay for anyone in Spokane. The service is excellence, the food excellence, and the atmosphere is outstanding. This is a grand old hotel from days past. Within walking distance are great restaurants. The Davenport is my spot to stay when in Spokane.

Room Tip: I've never had a problem with any of the rooms.
