I stayed at the Skamania Lodge for a week while attending a conference there. The Lodge is nestled among a forest of huge fir trees on the north bank of the majestic Columbia River. The Lodge is accessible from the Oregon side via the Bridge of the Gods ($2 toll) or from a riverside road on the Washington side. The view of the river from the main lounge/sitting area is superb, and the overall modern facilities could have been built much earlier than the 1990s when it was actually constructed. The complete decor features wood, wood, wood - on the outside as well as the inside. There are even tree houses that you can stay in if you desire a more rustic experience than a conventional room. While my room did not face the river, we did have access to a hospitality suite in a room which featured floor to ceiling windows that overlooked the outdoor fire pits, grass activity area, and the river. It rained one afternoon and there was a beautiful rainbow (see photo). The overall service was excellent and the conference rooms were comfortable and had rapid response when we had a problem with the projection electronics. My fourth floor bedroom was equipped with a fireplace, a large flat screen TV and a large desk that made work easy after a day of meetings. One clever attribute was their use of pine cones for DO NOT DISTURB signs. I do have a couple of pet peeves though. First, the in-room internet was not very fast. Second, there were no coffee stirrers at the morning coffee service one day in the main lounge, but the front desk did round up a spoon for me to use. Third, the Cascade Dining Room did not open until 7am for breakfast. A plus though was the quality and quantity of goodies the Lodge set out every day for our meetings. The Lodge itself is full of all types of art by local artists. There are many wood carvings as well as paintings and photos. In summary, the Skamania Lodge is a very pleasant place to stay and I thoroughly enjoyed the week I spent there.

Room Tip: book a river view room if possible

Would come again! Shorter food and drink hours than I’d like so didn’t get a chance to eat there! Expensive drink. Love th surrounding area! Service was excellent. Very spacious and clean rooms. Overall we were satisfied.

You're staying here for the setting; it's beautiful. But know that the 5-star setting has 4-star rooms (less stars if your room doesn't have a water view) and 4-star food. Don't get me wrong--nothing is bad...and 4 stars is not shabby! IT's just that the view and setting are the best things about the Lodge.

Room Tip: Ask for a water view...well worth it!

I was at the Skamania Lodge on a business trip and must say that the Lodge made my stay extremely enjoyable. The staff was helpful and kind, rooms were clean and beds were very comfortable. Sitting around the fire pit enjoying a cocktail while overlooking mountains...check

With plenty of things to do, this destination is sure to not disappoint! From golf to hiking, and bikes to the spa, there is something for everyone at Skamania lodge. I enjoyed the hiking with wonderful views and many kinds of wildflowers in bloom. The River rock outdoor dining in the afternoon was great as well. I would highly recommend this destination to anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city for some peace and quiet.
